Outlook Express problem

In my address book, I see a lot of names. How could they add their names to my address book? I deleted all these names. Now everytime when I start outlook express, I got " The instruction at "0x00f7682f" referenced memory at "0xffffffff". The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program." How to fix this problem? After click on OK, I can use outlook express. So "...the program" in the error message is not outlook express. What is it then?

Try running a repair on your Explorer. This usally fixes Outlook Express. Hope this helps

I use win2k. I didn't reply any unknown mail. Actually I haven't use Outlook Express for loooooong time.

What version of explorer are you useing? Look on your start menu for System Information and click on it. Once its window comes ups click on tools at the top of the window. Then on Internet Explorer Tools It will open a small window on it you will see repair . Just click on that.

I use IE 6.0

In System Information, I click on Tools at the top. I can only see Windows. I select Windows, there is a list

Windows Report Tool

There is no Internet Explorer

The Windows Address Book may be corrupted. Try renaming your existing one, do a search for *.wab. Should find one that's named after your current logon name, <username>.wab, it should be located in your C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book directory. Rename it from .wab to .bak. Relaunch Outlook Express, it should create a new .wab upon launch.

I turn it off now. It doesn't fix the problem.

I see you are running the orignal explorer that came with your os. Go to Microsofts Main download page. Then download Ie 6 service Pack . This should update your explorer Plus fix outlook express for you . Good Luck.

Same thing on my 2k box.

The repair option shows up in add remove programs, that is if you are using IE6sp1 and it's not XP. Go to add remove programs and select "Microsoft Internet Explorer and internet tools". You should get three options one of which will be repair.

OK, if you havn't upgraded the version originally installed with 2k, it probably dosn't show up. Mine shows up as Microsoft Internet Explorer 6sp1. You could try this since that won't work.

Repairing/Adding Components to IE6
To repair (or add features to IE6)
Make sure you have the source files from the same location they were installed
Do a Start / Run / rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance
You will then be given the options to Add a Component or Repair

My win2k comes with IE5.0. I upgraded it to IE6.0sp1. The OE is Outlook Express Update Q330994. By running rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance, I can repair IE or restore the previous version. but add a component option is disabled.

Well you should see "Microsoft Internet Explorer 6sp1" in ad remove programs. If it's not there try running the system file checker sfc /scannow.
