I have the abit ic7 and it's amazing. I did have to rma my first one, but that was becase my first ide channel was errored.

so many options and incredibly stable. Dont bother with anything higher then the reg ic7, it has more then enough features on it's own.

for 137, you cant beat it.

Is money an object?

If not, get the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe.

If so, get the ASUS P4P800.

I think the issue with the abit's is more out of the box RMA's. I think more people might still perfer the abit, but as (i think it was)yosc who said abit was having some quality control problems.

As I said, my abit board has issues with ide1. However, otherwise it performs amazing. RMA is in progress and I'll be getting my new mobo tomarrow.

Another point is that the asus are more expensive. I know that most benchmarks show the 865 and the 875 performing very close, after the bios mods are in place. While they are run from the same chips, it's the higher rated chips that are thrown into the 875 bins. At least from what I've read.

So, for 137, I believe the abit ic7 is an amazing buy. Unless you really need more then 2 firewire ports, 6 usb2 ports, or NEED the onboard NIC; the difference/cost to the ic7-g boards jsut isnt worth it.

And for overclocking, see this article...

http://www.digit-life.com/archive.shtml ... 0715#93333

"We’ve received some interesting info regarding Springdale-based Asustek P4P800 boards from company’s local branch. According to it, having tested various revisions, test labs confirmed the ability of ASUS P4P800 to work with 2.4GHz Intel Pentium 4 (800MHz FSB) at 1200MHz system bus clock speed without sacrificing system stability: "

Yeold,

I have gone from a 2.4 to a 2.9 and remained stable. If I go any higher the system will not boot (have to do a jumper clear to get back to bios). I wonder if it is the ram I am using. My temps are fine remain under 40 degrees under heavy load. What do you think?

Chim

You can't. There are no 3.06 GHz 800 FSB P4's. The 800 P4's are the new "C" variant, available in 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, and 3.0 (even).
