H20 advice

Post by Cypher »

I'm going to put together an H20 setup and will need advice along the way, so I'm starting this thead. So far I have the WB, pump and the radiator picked out.
Here's the WB:http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant2/m ... _Code=NEWP

Pump: http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant2/m ... ory_Code=P

The radiator:

I'll use 2x 120mm Panaflos.

The reservoir:

This seems good to me. I'll add a WB for the GPU and mabey the NB later. As for tubes I'll use Tygon with metal hose clamps. So hows it look?
(I edited this to include recent changes.)

Bay Reservoir would be kickass to use.

Also read stuff here: http://www.wc101.com/

the "T" Fitting is great

I have heard the d-tek radiators cool better than the BXE, I dont know how it would stack up to the double BXE but I would guess teh double would be better especially if your going to cool the GPU in the same circuit.

In my experience or just every eheim pump I get is really hot and raises the system temps 3-4C. I would suggest moving the pump and rad outside the case if you can (a mini PC case would be great or do like LT did). You may want to try a hydor pump or there is another good one cant think of the name though. I was disappointed with the temps in the last system I built and I know a majority was because of the pump.

Planning on OC'ing? better cool the H20 the NB now, you'll wish you did.

yes you want to get some water wetter. You'll have to find the perrfect mix for your system.

The bay res is nice but it can be a bitch to get the air out in some cases.

Thanks man. Nothing is in stone yet I'll start ordering parts in a few weeks. I just want to make sure I got it right.

Everything you listed will work great. The Whitewater is the best block you can buy. I use a original "Cathar" all copper Whitewater and it was 5c better than the Maze 3. For the pump I have tried Danner and Via aqua pumps but found that the Eheim is the best available for longevity and produces the least amount of heat.

For rads size does matter. The larger the surface area the better the cooling. That Black Ice X2 looks like it will perform well.

Well I made some changes.
1. Rad= Heatercore/shroud.
2. Pump= Danner mag 3.
3. Cascade from Cather for the cpu. Check this thing out: http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthrea ... did=202064
I'm on Stews list for one of these. As soon as he gives me the word it's on. :D
I'm still looking for a NB block. I want to do my GPU but that can wait. I like the DD res but I'm still looking around. I also plan to put the rad, pump and res external as suggested. I want to run the res right off the pumps intake at the loops end. I figure
Pump>rad>CPU>NB>res. I was thinking I could run the rads shrouded intake on the side of the box, and duct the exhaust at the top w/ 120mm fans. Mabey attatch the intake fan on the outside using a gasket between the housing. I'll come up with something good. :D

Your putting together a kick butt H2O setup. I am currently running a similar setup with a large auto heater core mounted out of my box with 2 120mm fans in a push-pull configuration and a homebrew res with a 1" diameter tube feeding the pump.
Stew's newest creation, The Cascade, is the best yet. I've been keeping up on the development of his new super block. He should be shipping them this week in limited quantities. I thought about ordering one but decided to stay with my Whitewater.(Ausie to US exchange rate sucks).
Danner Mag 3 is a good choice for a pump. I currently use one in my other rig. They run a bit warmer than a Eheim but last just as long and are not as expensive.

Looking forward to seeing your OC results.
