Parts for FOLDING RIGS?

Post by YARDofSTUF »

Ok we are getting a good following going here and lots of us have stuff sitting around collecting dust.

we also have a lot of ppl that keep adding boxes to fold more.

What we need now is this thread :)

We need to make detailed lists of the stuff we dont want thats good and could be used for folding rigs that were not looking to make money off of. cuz that old kt133 mobo will still run a good cpu for folding but wont fetch a high price no more.

So in the next few weeks i'm gonna test all my old junk and see what i have to offer. anyone looking to build a folding box for themselves would only need to pay shipping on the items, i think there are other generous souls here too that could offer teh smae to get rid of that older crap. how many working unused bx boards does one need anyway? lol

the deal with getting any parts from me for shipping alone is that the box must fold. this is the goal of the thread. the box could be used as a kids pc, server, whatever the person looking to build a system needs, it just must run f@h.

this way ppl that can afford the extra power bill or dont care, can rack up points in our favor

hopefully next weekend i'll have a good list of some working stuff thats of no use to me, and hopefully this can take off.

so now this is where u guys can post what u got to "donate" and where others can post what they need for a folding box!

feel free to wait till i get my list if ur all shy :D

i really think this is a good idea(as long as their are ppl looking to add to their farms)

thanks for listening!

Great idea Yardy!

I have ~8 old P2 233-300's that I am going to give a try at beowulf with, when I get a chance to research and learn about it!

But I have loads of other stufferz as well....

I've got 2 (ugh) intel chips I might donate if anyone needs 'em.
Both slot cellys

1-850Mhz with no cooler
1-266Mhz with cooler

Anybody wants 'em, just pay shipping and they're yours. I'm sure someone out there has slot mobos that need cpu's for folding.

**Edit **

Still have the 266Mhz left. C'mon I know someone wants it.

I should add that in terms of a new rig, thanks to RoundEye, I'm short only RAM (and maybe a case, but I'm not worried about that, I have an old 486 I'm wondering if it will fit into, and if not I think I should be able to find one)

...if anyone has any old RAM I'd shamelessly ask for it.

i'm glad to see this didnt get overlooked or dropped to the bottom of the page. theres so much potential with this.

if we get enough ppl and stuff to donate others could look to upgrade there old rig there stuck on, cuz some ppl here do use 166 P1s still and then contribute to folding and get us farther up the list!

My Celeron 334MHz choked on the 133 SDRAM I had stuck into it. It wants 100 SDRAM, anyone got some small chips they aren't using. Got 3 slots on the MB so 8MB or 16MB would work.

For those of you that are just putting together your farm, I have 2 extra switches that I'm not using.

Both can be linked to other swithes if you need to.

1. Is 8 port with 8th port usable as 8th pc or to link to another switch.

2. Is 5 port with extra 6th port for uplink.

No extra cables however, but do have power supply for each.

I just bought 4 used HDs for $36 and only needed 2, not sure if they work or not as thats the way I bought them. But the 2 I hooked up worked and the other 2 are just sitting. They are 4223MB Maxtors.

If you want to take a chance on them not working I'll send for postage.

Thanx rick but I don't need the lan switch. Friend gave me a netgear 4 port hub. As for the keyboard and mouse, looks Like I don't have the room to place it anywheres, lol

I was thinking using the kvm switch between the nebulous and the neucleus, then use the pos keyboard and mouse i'm using on the neucleus now for the 3rd box.

Thanx for the offer tho ;)

Thats how I wound up with extra keyboards and mice. I have 4 KVM 4 pc boxes hooked up so I can switch from pc to pc with only 1 monitor, 1 keyboard, and 1 mouse. Works great and have so much extra room on my desk.

Anybody have an old socket A motherboard laying around for a 950 Duron? I would prefer one that uses standard SDRAM not DDR. I have all the other parts to build another folding box.

Rick, I could actually use that switch. I just bought a 6th rig and I only have a 4 port router. What would it take to acquire that switch?

Anyone have a SCSI controller card (PCI) I have 4 2GB SCSI drives but nothing to connect to.

I also could use any IDE HDD over 1.5 GB

I have a few extra parts but not a lot, I am willing to buy or trade if possible.
