Nice, AMD Threadripper is out now. I can't justify the cost but if you need computing power, this looks to be the cat's meow.

Pricing on the Ryzen is getting better and better. Fry's has them on sale every few weeks, $40 - $50 off with promo codes. I just wish ram wasn't so damn volatile. It seems every time I want to upgrade, ram prices soar. :irate:

Intel most likely have had next generation processors ready and have been holding back. There just wasn't any need to due to the lack of competition. Case in point, Intel's previous strategy was "Tick/Tock", now it is "Tick/Tock/Tock".

Additionally, Intel is able to pretty much price their ...

From the reviews I've read so far, performance is as I expected. Almost as good as Intel but just slightly lagging. Price versus performance is where it beats Intel and that is where the big victory is. You will have to plunk down big money for Intel to get 8/16 cores/threads. What's nice is, unlike ...

I was thinking more from a physical core comparison. About a grand for Intel to play in that arena. But performance wise comparison, yes the i7-6800K would be correct.

A 1700x or 1800x almost anyone can afford. What Intel wants for their i7 8-core processor line is insane.

I cranked up the overclock on the shader, it helped a little. Not a lot though.

I will turn off one of the SMP clients and see what the results look like.

Taking a cue from Rick, I sold one of my 8800GTS the other day......

My GTX 285 arrives in a few days . :p

If anyone is looking for a good deal for a GTX 285, TigerDirect is selling one for $349.99 + $2.99 shipping. If you used "Live Cash", you get $35 back in cash which brings the deal in at $317 ...

I'm going to stick with my 3 GTS's. When I see a GTX 285 at a good price, I'll pick one up. I read some guy was getting ~1600PPD on one card which is more than all of my clients put together. :(

So much for "high quality" caps....

I heard a pop in my 8-core Xeon box and much to my chagrin, found this:

http://goobee.info/pics/caps.jpg

The caps on the 7600GT blew out. :irate: Not sure why, it was running at stock speed and voltage.

I pulled out one of my 8800GTS to replace it.

No 3 GPU cruncher rig for the time being. On ...

I've already got a 120mm case fan (you can barely see it in the pic) blowing air directly across the cards and it's not helping that much. :(

I'm still thinking about getting a card with a smaller heatsink, maybe a 9600GSO which should run cooler. I'll put the 8800GTS into my Xeon box.

Hmm? Not good. My two cards are sitting too close together. The upper one has little to no air flow. :(

I put my finger on it and it's getting hotter than the other two. I'm not going to chance it, I need to pick up a single slot version GPU to allow for more air flow.
