Code: Select all

<html>
  <body>
    <?php
      $userip = $REMOTE_ADDR;
    ?>
    IP address:  <?php PRINT("$userip"); ?>.
  </body>
</html>

At least I think that's what you want to do.

That's because <multicol> isn't part of the official html standards. It's supported by newer netscape browsers only. There are several inconsistencies like that with both netscape and microsoft browsers.

I suppose you could get the same effect by using <ul> or <ol> (unordered list/ordered list ...

IE is very forgiving, but the world wide web consortium isn't.

If you check out the official html specs here you'll see:

11.2.6 Table cells: The TH and TD elements
.......
.......
Start tag: required, End tag: optional

and on the same page up a section ( here ), you'll see:

The TR elements ...

That certainly is another way of doing it, but why would you want to type all of that?

For your 8 links/rollovers you have to type 3 pages. For the same 8 rollovers, it could be done using my method in about 16 lines of typing. Granted about 1 of your pages was to write the date, but still ...

Thanks mg. I got caught up in a couple of programming projects and had to put that on hold, but I promise I'll try that. I am almost positive that a nested table would work though. :)

As for the closing tr/td/th tags, those are completely optional. Trust me. Some html tags need to be closed, but ...

glc1,
I've got no idea why that isn't working for you. Granted I typed that out on the fly when I replied so just to make sure I copied that into a blank text doc, renamed some stuff in the source, renamed the file from .txt to .htm and it worked. The only thing that I can think of that maybe you ...

Actually I haven't tried nested tables but that just might do it. I'll try that when I boot back into 2k.

I'll be on the lookout for other sites that are doing something similar norm.

Thanks both of you for the assistance.

Well I'm guessing that you want to use an image for a link and have different mouse-up and mouse-down pics? If that's what you want then you can do it pretty easily with something like this. You can also use any of the other intrinsic events like OnMouseMove, OnMouseDown, etc. In the example below ...

Here's the relevant portion, minus js and php and such. Please excuse any typos, since I had to retype most of this for the post so you wouldn't have to bounce back and forth between the style sheet and the html.

Well maybe I should have posted what I'm using so far for the tables. I dare say that I know as much about html as most since I've been designing websites semi professionally for just over 3 years. html question about tables

Here's the deal..... I've got a table with one row of cells. There's a mixture of cells with images and some with text. The problem is that even though I'm specifying the width and height property values in the table, img, and td tags the cells with text end about 5 pixels or so below the bottom of ...

Well that's not exactly what I meant. The example that I was referring to (I just found it again) was in VML (vector markup language), an xml application. It allows you to 'draw' non standard shapes on a page by specifying x and y coordinates. After some thought though I went with small transparent ...

dhtml question (i think)

It's times like this that I hate having such a bad memory.... Some time ago I saw an example which I believe was in dhtml which automatically generated/displayed 2d shapes given all the x&y coords. The example that I remember seeing displayed a big five-pointed star on the web page. It may not have ...

Maximizing IE windows (automatically)

Is there any automatic way to force IE windows to automatically open maximized?

I don't mean when you launch IE by a shortcut, but when you right click on a link and click on "open in a new window" or whatever that says. Through the "advanced" tab on the "internet options" control panel I believe ...

Ya know, I didn't think there was a work around for the "time" issue (short of writing your own time function or patching command.com or something).

"time" does get the system time, but then it prompts you to change it. Of course you can just hit enter to not change it, but is there a way to simulate the user hitting enter in a batch file?
