max speed?

hey guys...
just a lil question... doesn't involve much but i'm just curious

most of you guys that talk about ur speed being able to go up to 3-5MB/Mb... i was wondering... are speeds rated according to Megabits or Megabytes?

guess what i'm trying to say is... i'm getting a dl speed of 254KBps ...

hey... uhmm just got a thought for ya...

you might wanna check to see if you set up the mail servers right...
i.e. if i use roadrunner and just my NIC card w/o a router
the i can just use... pop-server
that would let me read my mails... but if i'm under a router i would then have to set the full ...

heya guys... just happening to read this here and i just saw the part about the MAC address for the NIC cards...

i'm using a linksys router... and in the router settings there is an option there that you can forward one of the NIC's MAC address... that'll let it forward to the cable company for ...

yes that does present a problem... in which... i have 3 way that you can do that...

#1. (the best way i see it) is that you can specify the current ip and set it as static...


i.e. each ip that you recieve from ur isp has a lease date and a certain amount of time that you can keep that ip... but ...

yea i called my cable company

they said i'm capped at 2-3 or 3-5 MBps... and my up is like 386KBps... i'm not sure

but they said my line to my house was only 1.5down and 51.6KBps up... so i don't know

you could though try to bypass the ip address and just put that one computer out of the firewall itself...
just put the ip of the computer you want for FTP and put it in the DMZ area...
that seems to work fine too...

easiest way is you can email linksys and ask them for help w/ setting up a G6 ftp ...

i keep hearing you guys talking about signal test and how it is...
but how would i go about testing mine? or do i need a special tool to do that?

i found that it's probably my cable line itself that's causing the problem...
not 100% sure... but just got off da fone w/ my cable company... they said that that might be the cause of my probs... and they'll have someone come out and take a look at the lines and see if ...

my speed did seem to increase by some bits... but...
still seems slow...
could it be that i should lower my mtu?
but how do i do that in win2k?
or should i raise/lower my RWIN setttings?

what ftp server are you using?
if ur using serv-u
you might wanna try to put ur WAN ip into the passive mode data transfer settings

you can try to look for that in the other server programs too... but i only know that bypass for serv-u...

hi guys... i'm not really sure what's going on... but here's my settings...

i got a linksys ethernet card
connected to a linksys 4port router
and that's connected to my tobisha road runner cable modem

now my current MTU speed is 1500
MSS is 1460
and RWIN is 513920

all my other settings are that ...
