Update: 8/29/2017
[link removed by admin]

ARRIS is receiving firmware releases for the Puma 6 chipset from Intel. As Intel provides these releases, they immediately undergo rigorous testing for the ARRIS devices. Because different versions of the update are required to address multiple operators ...

They only recommend it as they are eventually trying to get everyone on to newer stuff and better channel handling. If they still support the 6121, then I wouldn't worry about it. Eventually however they can and will stop supporting it. Then you'll need to find the next step up modem to get. I ...

And you don't have to use the 8200, I'm sure there are other modems that are on there supported modems list that you can use. SB6183, MB7420, etc.

The SB 6121 is certainly a good modem. Until your ISP stops supporting it on there system and makes you move to a newer generation, keep it. I have the 6121 and it worked well when I had it online. Modems are not spendy, I got my SB6183 and Motorola MB7420 for under $80. You can find good deals on ...

Ya, I presume over time, some modems will fall off. I presume quicker on the major ISPs as they are pushing for faster speeds. On my ISP the SB 6121 and 6120 are supported however not recommended unless you are using there lowest speed tier. The SB 6183 and MB 7420 are supported still. :thumb:

I would presume the ISP or Arris may have some something to the modems. If they had been working well until something was pushed to them, Arris needs to own up to it.
I have the Arris 6183 and it's a solid modem. Had it since January.

Also Motorola has a MB7420 whats a 16x4 modem.

Stay away ...

One other thing to mention, most DSL modems can be bridged thus making the modem/router a modem only in which you could install a external main host router, like one of D-Links DIR series routers with good QoS features that would help you in gaming.

Another suggestion if you were to use just the ...

Usually when you put a modem into bridge mode, the web page is disabled and this is normal. To get it back you'll need to factory reset the modem. Access to the modems web page isn't needed anymore when it's in bridge mode.

So we finally got Internet back at home LOL.
Got a Netgear Router and ...

I personally like the DIR-868L, handles a lot of streaming and a great router for gaming too.

You could upgrade some of your LAN wired devices to use the AC wireless too using AC DAPs...or you could use the DIR-868L in bridge mode as well. My buddy bought 2 of these routers, uses one as the main ...
