If I remember XBox with tomato, had to open/forward the 2x ports for XBox, and manually set the MTU. Giving the XBox a static LAN of course.
• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074

So you'll want your XBox to be on a static IP...easily done in DHCP reservations on the router.

For your home network you want to leave it to "gateway" mode, that's the more common use for routers if they are your gateway to the internet.

The "router" mode..that's used when you're building large networks with different subnets, branches, etc.

I bought a WRT54GL off a buddy its flashed with Tomato Version 1.27

so i have a quick question everything runs perfectly fine
i must say i'm impressed with the third party firmwares out there

you might want to take a look at this little firewall...you can get a descent computer to run it on and you should have a great deal of control.

oh man that would be quite a list we have tried everything from Antamedia
too even programs like netlimiter (netlimiter didn't limit anything! lol...)

im starting to think hardware might be the best option at this rate
theres got to be something out there with advanced QoS options

yes sir! but it's a bit more then that to be honest it's more like a deli with internet access

as you can see without some sort of bandwidth management
things could get little dicey

especially since he plans to add wireless access points too

A Good friend of mine started a buessines so i may have a new job soon yay!
hard to find a good job thease days :(

anyway ill get right too the point this firend of mine is great with building pc's
but when it comes to networking he and I are in the same boat to be blunt
we both HATE networking ...
