Is My Computer Starting to Die?
I've been using the same computer (MOBO) for almost 3 1/2 years now and have never had any hardware problems until now.
Over the past week when I turn on my computer it begins the boot process but within a couple of seconds it hangs and the first stages of the boot process don't even appear on the ...

Please confirm this...
I have two HDD's (master and slave) connected to a single IDE port with a single cable. The slave drive dies. Is it possible for the death of the slave drive to cause both of the drives to no longer be visible to the MOBO, ie, no IDE detection?

So far everything we've ordered from these have shown up on the expected date and was not broken. Since we've never had any need for a RMA I can't say anthing further.

I have a friend on a limited budget who is currently using an old M-Tech R558 MOBO with a Cyrix 200Mhz processor. I'm looking for something for her that is relatively low end but reliable. Here is what I'm looking for in the basics.

There are PCI IDE controller cards made by Promise, SIIG and others in which can add additional hard drives, CD's and the like or use these cards to bypass the builtin IDE controllers altogther.

New MOBO
Just a general question.
My sons want to put a new MOBO + CPU + memory in their PC.
What are a half a dozen or so good choices for the MOBO? They want to use a Athlon XP CPU in the 1.5 Ghz and up range. They want to do power gaming.
