I'm real slow at 16Kb/sec. What to do?

Any speed tests I run return a 'below average' rating. I'm on sypatico.ca Basic DSL, Win98se, 13GB HD, 256RAM.
Any help would be really appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Do you ever dust the inside of your monitor case? Seems to me it ought to be really dusty given all the air vents it has.

Problem solved. It was dust. I sprayed and vacuumed inside the tower and now the fan shuts off.
Thanks for your help all.

Thanks for your response. When I checked the BIOS, Power Management was set at 'User Defined'. Is that what you're referring to?

Fan keeps running when cmptr is off.

The cooling fan keeps running after I've shut down the computer. The LED light on the CD flashes too. I've been unplugging the tower, but is this problem serious? Any ideas what could be causing the fan to keep running? I've done a thorough virus, spyware, PestControl check and all come up fine ...

Don't know if I really know what I'm talking about, but my computer was working really fine until AdAware found 29 new components (Cydoor, Alexa and WebHancer) which prevented connections to my ISP after I used AdAware to remove them. I checked my Add/Remove program but they were not listed there ...

I've had a similar problem with connecting to my dsl ip after three weeks of no problem. It took a senior (2nd level) tech support guy to help me, after MANY frustrating calls. He had me delete winsock and winsock32(?) and 3 other keys in the registry, with the windows98se cd in the drive. Within 5 ...

I downloaded the thingy, I installed the thingy and I ran the thingy....I thought. I didn't get the gray box to enter my user id etc - just a DOS box. I did install the zipped up thingy that is supposed to make F@h run in console mode. I checked in search for posts about F@h but I'm only more ...

Finjan Software's SurfinGuard input please.

As this is a free anti-trojan program, am I asking for trouble - is it spyware? is it reliable? Any input would be appreciated.

I'm not referring to certain 'boxes' that show up on sites. There have been a few sites where the entire page is one big 'box' with that little X in the top left. That can't be one big ad, but whatever is on the site itself - like a shockwave movie on one particular site. Most sites open fine and do ...

What does anyone/everyone think about that free sandbox thingy from I forget who (used to be or still is ad-sponsered or spyware?). It's supposed to check everything you click into for trojans. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Missing pictures etc on sites, but why??

I don't understand why I'm suddenly not able to 'see' certain areas of some sites. I get a blank box with a little X in the top left corner. Right or left clicking on it does nothing. I have 'Show pictures' and 'Show Animations' checked on the Advanced Tab of Internet Options. Suggestions/Advice ...

Scoot: Thanks for the information. What is your opinion on this setup of 2 antivirus programs? I've heard it isn't wise to have 2 installed as they may cause conflicts and false positive scan results etc. Your opinion would be much appreciated.
