2 routers connected to a CPE

I would like to improve the configuration of my network if it is possible. I do not seem to have any connection problems, I would just like to know if there is a better way of setting it up.

My wireless ISP's gateway (CPE) is located about 400 feet from my house. The cable to the CPE can not ...

It sounds to me like your problems are caused by being in a building with 5-10 access points, each one apparently managed by independent parties.

With several access points operating on the same channel within range of each other, each one of them will cause interference for the others. It also ...

Wi-fi Parameters

Since Wi-FI networks tend to be susceptible to interference & dead spots. And "Clients" are typically roaming between access points and varying levels of signal strength and quality, the "optimum" values to use can vary.
Depending upon the equipment you are using and which wireless management ...

another setting to try

A couple of more settings for you to try (assuming you have the options):

Try using 'Long radio headers' instread of the commonly used 'short headers'.
Long headers - ensure compatibility with client adapters
Short headers - improve throughput
This should not be an issue with your limited range and ...

How were you connecting the 2 computers before the WRT54G trouble?
I have noticed some of these symptoms on configurations where one or more "clients" are using static I.P.'s within the range of an active DHCP server.

I just stumbled accross something you might check into at:

What is the purpose of the WAP54G in repeater mode?
Is this the one you added when the trouble started?
Are your A.P.'s using different channels? (2, 5, 9, etc.)

Its possible your router could be picking up stray signals or interference from other wireless equipment, it does not seem feasible for one of your neighbors to steal your bandwidth, but I guess some people would do it just because its there.. whenever I use my laptop in the “field” it is always ...

I grew tired of having dead spots the first day I installed my WRT54G, the second day I relocated it to a nonmetalic weatherproof enclosuer mounted above an out-building, now I get reception everywhere on my property. although it can be a pain when you need to access the router.
