Seriously, I have never played a game so poorly put together.
Every single step in the installation is a mess. The game graphics options are non existant. You have to change resolutions settings in regedit. Thank god I had a friend saying he would vouch for me if I didn't like it. What a piece of crap.
They should put a "stiff drink recommended during installation" label on the box or something.
Has anyone else attempted to play this disaster?

I have friends who play, but the beta test was more than enough for me. After playing for hours on end, for probably close to a week, and having a random sheep (ornery or otherwise) kill my level 9 character (complete with large sword, shield, and enough armor to sink Orson Welles to the bottom of the ocean), I knew I had enough.Shagster wrote:Has anyone else attempted to play this disaster?
(Having my character name (or one with the same name as mine on a different server) in a Penny-Arcade strip probably didn't help either

It is still, to date, the only Final Fantasy game I have not completed (or enjoyed, to much of any extent). I know MMOs are all the rage for some, but even tacking the Final Fantasy name onto the game wasn't enough to get me to pay for a single month of it.
Shaggy, I feel your pain.
We got it figured out now (sorta). It's basically a terrible attempt at porting a ps2 game to the computer.
The first problem is the playonline launcher. Then about two hours of patching. Half an hour to figure out how to set up your account. Then an hour to figure out exactly how to get the controls how you like them (or get them less annoying).
You and your friends are put on random servers and the world pass costs a lot of in game money. So you have to keep making and deleting characters until it you all get on the same server.
I think I made this thread a little before my buzz kicked in. Can't remember being so annoyed with a game.
There are four of us playing. We are impatiently waiting for Vanguard Online and decided to give another mmo a go for a month or two. I switch between genres and right now I really wanna play an mmo but there really aren't any.

Please help meim like gonna cry, lol nah jk
A question, when you need to install active x and click install does a little bar pop up on the top of the browser?
Yep, except that the whole PlayOnline thing is at least as stupid on the PS2 or 360, if not more so.Shagster wrote:We got it figured out now (sorta). It's basically a terrible attempt at porting a ps2 game to the computer.
But I can handle all of the silly interfaces if I find the game behind it to be fun or engaging. I found this game to be neither, so I don't blame you for waiting for Vanguard.
Wow, I found the real computer graphics options. They are in the start menu. I never tell the game to make start menues, I just tell them to put a shortcut on the desktop and if I need to uninstall it just do it through windows add/remove.
Game was playing on 640xsomething and I have a 20" monitor. It was a big OMFG moment when I logged in with the new found settings maxed out!

yeah it does, it says i may need to install active x, so i click that and a little window opens and it has an install or cancel option, so i click install and no further action is taken,YARDofSTUF wrote:Heh, wrong thread. lol

make sure you are using IE, download the 135 meg game and install it, then click play live, and if active x needs to install it should.
In IE under tools and internet options click the security tab and then go to custom and under active x make sure that "run active x controls" is set to enabled.
