what a suprise - "Michael Moore's anti-Bush documentary gets Cannes glory"

Post by The_Lurker »

gee, thats no suprise.politicaly motivated hollywood type people give an anti Bush movie top honors in a French film festival.

Several critics believed the jury's choice was controversial, after having given higher marks to other contenders, notably "2046", a complex film by Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai.

Provocative US writer and director Michael Moore was basking in the glow of winning the Cannes film festival top prize for his virulently anti-Bush documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11".

"....was awarded the Palme d'Or in a stunning announcement that brought immediate international attention.
Quentin Tarantino and the other members of this year's Cannes jury were to explain later Sunday their reasons for giving the film the the controversial honour."

"Moore, though, made little secret of his hope that the documentary -- once seen by US voters -- would influence the November presidential elections in the United States."

all our people all over the world are fighting for our rights as a free country to express ourselves freely,

and for his right to make movies just like that.

all he is doing is excersizing those rights.

it's really simple,if people don't like his movies,then don't go see them!

Correct me if I am incorrect, but did not Bush use images of 9/11 in his re-election campaign?

Of course, Michael Moore films are full of propaganda. But to talk along the lines of him being unpatriotic because he bad-mouths the pres? That's plain stupidy. You should only be proud of your country when it has made achievements worth being proud of.

But of course, if you disagree with the actions of your leaders, you're automatically labeled as un-patriotic. Ridiculous.

thats right, because we enjoy so many freedoms, including the right to openly express ourselves.

M Moore is small in the big picture,

people should spend their energy fighting truly harmful people ,like the KKK,and street gangs,& drug dealers, etc, etc

You guys are gonna sit around and talk about rights and this Piece of CRAP?! He supports taking away our rights to bare arms, yet wants to be protected by his right of free speach? What a hypocrite.

And if using propaganda against our country and leader during war time isn't unpatriotic i don't know what is....

Sorry, JBKM, but it's more patriotic to question and doubt a countries' leader's motives and actions than to blindly follow him or her into potential distruction. Dissent is more patriotic than blind obedience.

Bush can use 9/11 propaganda, but Moore can't? Hypocritical of you to chastize one but not the other..

Hmmm... propaganda is everywhere. Bush uses propaganda against Kerry and vice-versa (I believe you guys call that a smear campaign).

Given the chance, I would also remove all rights to bear arms. I'm not going to get into a discussion about the right to bear arms because it's been done before, it's old and it's a useless dicussion that won't go anywhere.

Does MM actually slander his countries past achievments? Or does he focus on the current leader, the current state of the country and the current society of people in America?

If someone dislikes the president, disagrees with the actions their country takes, do you think they are wrong to speak out against such actions? It seems you're acting more communist than anything else... ;)

Seriously though, if MM disagrees with the pres and his actions, he has every right to voice his opinion on any medium he wishes. He would be more un-patriotic if he kept his mouth shut just to keep face. Think about it.

I'm interested to see it.

I don't think MM has ever said anything bad about our troops, as a matter of fact, hes a staunch supporter of the troops, just not of the administration that is sending them off to die with no real plan of action.

Questioning authority is not unpatriotic. Remember this country was founded by those unhappy with the current leadership who had the balls to say and do something about it.

i think the founding fathers would be very distressed at the current state of our once great and proud country.

You are thinking of his speech against Pesident Bush at the Academy Awards of 2003, when he won the Oscar for Bowling for Columbine.

"On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this. I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to - they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction. We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fiction of duct tape or fiction of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much. "

I don't see anything negative being said about the troops there.

Michael Moore is one of the most patriotic writters and filmmakers currently working. Read any of his earlier books, or try watching "Roger and Me" or "The Big One" and tell me he's unpatriotic.

I know none of you will bother to watch it because its much easier to make smug remarks and judgements about someone when you're uninformed, but I really recommend the abovementioned books or films to anyone.

Must be nice to get rich on "FACTS", you are right tho..i don't know everthing about him...i did try to sit and watch that "BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE" movie... anyone that can blame guns for that is unreal...

actually he was very accurate IMO when he said "We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons." ,because he said that BEFORE as we all now know there was no WMD's found.
