that is sad. it's really too bad the Parhelia didn't cature the market share like it could have. even with the release of the Parhelia 256MB.

i have had a few Matrox cards, and they were (and still are) unbeatable in 2D and overall video quality. have a G550 in the server as a matter of fact. beautiful. and they, unlike ATI were on the ball with drivers.

(*sighs*)

Bummer...I just quoted out a high end workstation for a CAD guy, I am going to custom build by hand for him....does a lot of CAD work, plus is into gaming like MS Flight sims, etc. The Pahrelia seemed like the only card able to handle both professional graphics programs well, and decent DX gaming. I can't find another card that handles both sides well. Need driver support with professional CAD support, and decent gaming. I usually use nVidia's quadro's for CAD machines, but they don't game well.

Bummer if they are going to go down the tubes.

I'm not surprised. They totally fumbled with the Parhelia and this new move to make a watered down version that is still priced out of its performance bracket is just the last nail in the coffin IMO.

I can respect them targeting the professional market, but this card had features for gamers too and with a little effort could have competed in the enthusiast and consumer graphics market too and been more successful. ATi and nVidia are targeting these markets and doing just fine.

This card is pretty much trying to be a pro and gamer card and I really think that lack of focus is what has made it unattractive to both markets. Plus the pricing is kinda steep for what you get compared to their competition.

Oh well. At least ATi is doing fine.

It appears the company is suffering from a severe case of incompetent management. I wonder what their marketing folks are doing. Just pretty ads?

My two G450's are doing just what I want, but I found I couldn't just walk into a store and buy them. Fry's doesn't carry the brand and I didn't see them on the shelf anywhere else either. ATI is everywhere.
