Hi,
I just reformatted my computer and I'm still kinda new to Windows 2000 Pro.
Here's the deal...
- ONE computer is being set up to have multi-user accounts.
- I'm using Win2000 Pro SP2
- I have 4 partitions. C: (Main) D: (one person's drive) E: (another) F: (another)
- All 4 partitions are NTFS files system
- I'm going to set up One Admin account and 3 Power Users account (have access to install progs but not do advanced control panel settings).
My Goal (what I want it to do)...
- Main programs are to be installed in C: like Office, IE, etc.. all 4 (admin and Power Users) will have access.
- I want each account to have personalized settings.
- The 3 Power Users each have their own drive. Power User 1 = D:, 2 to E: and 3 to F:
- Each Power User has access to only their drive and C: (where main programs are). Only Admin should be able to bypass of course and have access to their drives.
- Each Power User can install their own programs in their own drive (like Kazaa, IRC, etc.) but it shouldn't install (have access) in other Power User accounts.
Probs...
- I installed Nero (latest version) in C: with the Admin account. But the Power Users don't have access to burning option (it runs but it says it needs access to the SCSI/IDE). The help says to go to Edit->Pref->Security but I don't see it anywhere. How do you give Power Users access to Nero's burning options?
- Some programs the Power Users installed in their own drive also made shortcuts in other power Users accounts. How can I prevent this? (one user installed Netscape on his account and drive but it all added desktop shortcuts in all other 3 user accounts)
- Some programs I want all Power Users to access doesn't go perfectly to all users. (Window washer is screwy with some of the accounts. One user has it auto loading everytime he logs in and then gives an error.)
OTHER/FUTURE PROBS?!?
- Security - This is my first time setting up a multi-user single PC. I don't know much about security of accounts. Like what I did to allow access to D: only for Power User 1, I went to security, I removed the "everyone" setting and added full access to only Power User 1 account. I don't know if that's is how you do it.
Thx in advance to anyone who can help
