I just upgraded 98 to XP and before I did anything I checked XP's event viewer, and received a setup error......

Windows Setup encountered non-fatal errors during installation. Please check the setuperr.log found in your Windows directory for more information.

setuperr.log states..........
Error:
IE Migration: No Rating migration. Private.Inf does not exist.

If anyone here has any idea how to correct this problem, I appreciate it. Thanx

Are you upgrading or doing a fresh install? A fresh install is FAR better, it can be done with the upgrade versions of XP (they are the full version) just reformat your HD then set your BIOS to boot from cd and install. It will ask for an earlier version of Windows (98, 98SE or ME) just to validate you own it, put it in and let it validate then remove it and install as usual.

I upgraded 98 to XP but I can do a fresh install. But I have a question...... Lets say you do a fresh install of XP and whenever you need to reformat your hard drive, how is it done? Because I reformat my HD more than anyone...hehe. I think its a bit more difficult than 98. Maybe Im wrong. By the way Im using XP PRO.

To actually give you an answer to your question -
All that error means is that during the upgrade Setup.exe was unable to find your Content Advisor settings, as used in Internet Explorer.
99.9% of the time this is simply because the Content Advisor was not enabled in the install you upgraded from.
The other .1% of the time it means you need to set your ratings in Content Advisor again before using Internet Explorer.

Either way, it's absolutely nothing to worry about.
And you don't need to reinstall XP (unless you just have nothing better to do)

Im running IE6, so how do you uninstall IE then reinstall it?

Go to http://www.updates.com and see if you have newest virtual machine installed

If none of that worked put in XP disk an do fresh install, delete drives and partitions, create new one, FAT32

I installed all the critical updates from M$. I went back to POGO and tried to join a game but my system crashed. Prior to restarting a blue screen showed up, it contained......

And now I checked the event viewer and received another error...

What in the hell is going on???

Most likely your video card driver, do you have a Nvidia? If so try updating the drivers from Nvidia - not Microsoft, try the latest Detonator drivers and see if it fixes the error.

Yes I have the GeForce 2 MX 400 and I've tried the following drivers....

21.41

I still have the same problem......

I think it has something to do with IE but what can you do to test it or uninstall/reinstall it?

Im also lost on this one.

There is a known issue with Nvidia and XP, usually if you have a Via chipset. I have installed XP on MANY pc's and with some I've had to stay with the OEM XP drivers for Nvidia and others updated to the latest drivers no problem. If this started after updating a driver try rolling back to the original OEM drivers. Lobo is right in that you might be better of reformatting and reinstalling XP and don't update your drivers. Another thing you might try is to update your motherboard chipset drivers for Via it's the 4n1, it has solved problems for some. I'm a Moderator on the TweakXP Forums you might find your answer if you post there since it's only Windows XP. Good luck.
