I have DSL from Bellsouth with a consistent download of 1240kbps/220kbps. My ping times in Unreal Tournament jump frequently from 50-60ms up to 150-200ms. Is there a way to keep these consistent and low. My downloads are consistent, but my ping times are very unreliable. Willing to sacrifice download speed for low consistent ping times.
I have a Alcatel Speed Touch USB PPPoA under Win XP Pro Build 2600 (same prob in ME) powered by an AMD 1700+ XP (1.47Ghz) on an ASUS A7M266 mobo w/256 megs DDR 2100. I have tweaked my services.msc to run XP faster.

Pings look consistant. Perhaps it's the server hosting the game. Bandwidth becomes increasingly shared as new users join and your ping may jump with additional players joining. If the server is using a cable modem, his upload (usually 128-480 KB/s) is shared with the amount of users playing. UT requires approx. 50-60 KB/s per user. Pings will increases if you cannot have that much bandwidth from that particuliar server.
Carla: I'm downloading the 1.4 updated drivers. I will install and see if that helps any. If not, I will call Bellsouth and see what they can do as a replacement along the lines of a PCI.
Lee_Nover: I don't play on only 1 server, I play on several. Including a server on an OC48. Most of the servers i play on are T1 or greater.
Huh.. I downloaded and updated my drivers for the Alcatel and reinstalled it... Now instead of having PPPoA... I have PPPoE. I still have to dial in though.
Is this possible? Is it an error or ...? It seems to work just the same as with the older drivers except I connect at 1.4Mbps instead of 1.472Mbps. My downloads are down from 1240 to around 1220... pings seem a little more stable, but I need to test more to be for sure.
