Overclocking questions

Post by Bonskibon »

I was reading in another thread of some of the advanced members system stats, and I was very impressed with the speed after clocking. So much so that I thought of doing it myself.

Do you recommend overclocking?
Is it harmful to the system, if so, how?
Is it worth it to overclock if I have a 933 already?
Is overclocking something that can be undone?
Does it really make a difference in performance?

Thanks for answering my questions, just feeling out the situation first to see if it is something I should do. :)

NEVERMIND............I read some stuff about overclocking and it seems to be to much for me to handle. I'll just be happy with what I got. Thanks anyway :)

Depends on the person, but why not? :) It's like getting a better processor for lesser money in a way.

Is it harmful to the system, if so, how?
Yes if you don't monitor your temps. You need to keep your processor cool.

Is it worth it to overclock if I have a 933 already?

Ummm maybe, it depends on what you do. If you mostly surf, check email ect ect..then probably not.

Is overclocking something that can be undone?

Yes, as easily as it can be done. :)

As to performance, once again, it depends on what you do with your computer.

In a word, all your doing is forcing your 933 cpu to be say a 1.2 if you can get it that high.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

If you do change your mind and you do decide to overclock... make sure you keep that CPU cool! Or else you will end up with a very expensive paper weight (or keychain :D )

I think mobo is motherboard? If I'm wrong please let me know, not sure of all the lingo.

I have an Intel D815EEA
Intel 815E Chipset

Not sure if that is helpful, or if you need to know more. :)

Well

If you ocing Intel PIII/CeleronII, it's very simple, you really can only up your FSB (Front Side bus.) But it that does involve raising the vcore (voltage to the cpu as well). It's not very challenging, but does take some getting used to. I'd have to say it'd be worth it for you to oc, you'd definately be able to break the 1ghz barrier.
