Budget Touch Screen Convertible Laptop

Post by Cameron203 »

I am looking for a sub <$500 convertible touch screen laptop for my daughter that is about to turn 7. I am just curious for your opinions on something that would be good for her. Also, any thoughts on buying refurbished from New Egg? Does anyone have any experience with that? I think they come with a one year manufacturer warranty.
Thanks.

I bought her an iPad when she was 14 months old and it finally died. Lol. She'll be 7 on the 26th of February and it just stopped charging. I'd say it had a good run though. She wants a laptop now, so honestly anything with a screen as big as her iPad would suffice. The lighter the better. She definitely wants the 2 in 1's touch screen convertibles. Thanks for any suggestions.

My top choice would be a LENOVO FLEX 3 14, it has 8GB of RAM and an i3 processor, but it's a bit above budget at $549.

You can also look at Dells (DELL Inspiron 13 i7359-1145SLV) and ASUS (Transformer Book T300LA-BB31T) I suppose. I'd try to stay away from Atom and Celeron processors as they seem sluggish compared to i3 or CoreM. 8GB of RAM and SSD is always a plus, but rare under $500. Just my 2c, haven't really looked around for bargains.

The laptop specs look great for the price. I am not so sure about the "Lucky Dogs Electronics" seller, that's where you are taking the chance it seems -- http://www.newegg.com/Lucky-Dog-Electronics

I actually have an opportunity to purchase an Asus Q551L laptop convertible touchscreen. It is an i7 (4510U) processor 2 ghz, 8 gb memory, 2 gb GT840M graphics card, 1 TB hard drive 5400 rpm. I have an opportunity to purchase this for $550. I haven't heard any bad reviews on the Asus. I know they don't score as well as the Lenovo, but based off of hardware alone, do you think this is a good purchase?
