Creating an in-home wireless network from a Wireless ISP

Post by Thomas »

I am part of a group of 8 that shares wireless internet for our community only. The ISP placed a broadcasting antenna on one house in the community with the highest elevation. We each then receive a line-of-sight signal from that antenna. As a new member of this community, to receive the signal, I purchased a Netgear Genie N600 wireless receiver (USB) and connected it to my desktop computer. The Genie (about the size and shape of a stick drive), is taped to the inside of a window that has line of sight to the community antenna. After initial log-in, I have been receiving the signal just fine and have good internet access. Now, I would like to expand the incoming signal to my entire household. If I purchased a wireless router and a USB to RJ45 adapter, would this work to connect my Genie Wireless Receiver directly to the Router and would the incoming internet signal then be distributed in my household? I want to be able to use my laptop anywhere in the house along with my wifi enabled cell phone and new smart TV too. I would appreciate any input on this as to what equipment I should buy to accomplish this. Thanks.

If you want to setup wireless home network then you should provide both router & modern for internet connection. There are various router in market you can use anyone including Netgear WNR1000 (Wireless-N) and Linksys WRT310N (Wireless-N) ETC

Setup internet connection with wireless adapter & router as well as ISPs commonly offer you with an Internet modem as part of your subscription.
