Laptop Screen Replacement

Post by mnosteele52 »

I've got an issue with a laptop screen replacement, wondering if you guys have any insight.

The laptop is a Sony VPCCW17FX http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model- ... manualsTab it has an Nvidia graphics chipset.

A client brought it to me with a cracked LCD screen, easy fix..... usually. I ordered a replacement screen from Screentek (whom I've used multiple times) and put the new screen in and it appeared to be faulty, colors and graphics all messed up, lines on the screen etc. So I called Screentek and they sent me out a new one, testing it first to make sure it was working. I have the same issue with the second one. I can put in the old screen and it works fine other than the crack, I can hook up to an external monitor and graphics are perfect.

Any ideas on what could be causing the new screens to now function?

Got me..doesn't make sense.
Only thing I can think of, is they're sending you a screen that's a slightly different part number, designed for a slightly different mobo on that.

If it is the on board video, a simple check with an external monitor should display a similar problem, Which you have already done. It could be the wiring or solder points to the screen or as yosc suggested, a part number issue.

Sounds like faulty LCD's but might also be a faulty motherboard. That's why I hate laptops. LoL
