I have a Toshiba laptop I bought used. It had XP Pro and XP Home loaded. I removed the Pro version as it was not a legal copy.
I also updated a few of the drivers. Somewhere in the process, something changed and now, in the Device Manager, it shows a PCI Modem. There is a question mark next to it. When you boot the computer, it says Windows found new hardware and is looking for a driver. There is not driver for it that I can find. I have located where it is at in the Registry and tried to remove it, but it comes back when I reboot.
I have no idea how to get rid of this and I am taking this computer overseas to give to my wife in a few weeks. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks.

It's just the driver for the 56k modem that's built into the laptop...if you are able to get online by other means, try Windows Update as sometimes it will be able to install the proper driver. Otherwise you will need to give us the model number as Sava requested so we can point you in the right direction.

I have already tried the Windows Update and nothing happened. I use a regular wireless set-up to get on the Internet, so I really don't use it.
Thanks for all the help!
