Please Help Me! Nimda Sucks! @;@

Post by ambnj99 »

My computer recently aquired a virus, the nimda virus, from what i've read. After a week of running anti virus scans and special nimda removal tools, which didn't work, I downloaded and used norton 360. It finally found the viruses and cleaned them out of my system. The system is no longer slow, and new scans show a clean system. However, still when I restart the computer..the guest account "nimda" appears in the log on page, and a VPN called "test" in connections. They can both be easily deleted, but I want them to stop reloading when the computer reboots. I have windows xp. I think I may have to manually remove some files from what i'v e been reading. I want to make sure the virus is really gone, so I can comfortably use my computer again. Please let me know if you know what my problem is and if you have any solutions. Thanks

What specific virus(s) did Norton 360 show it found?

Nimda is an old virus, any antivirus product should be able to clean it and fix related issues.

Backdoor.IRC.Bot
Bloodhound.Exploit.213
Trojan.Adclicker

these were the detected viruses from norton 360. All other AV did not detect anything on the system.

I've been researching this on the internet, it seems some files need to be amnually deleted, but I am unsure
thanks!

None of those are pointing to Nimda necessarily....I'm guessing you more likely have a rogue antivirus, vundu based.

Download and run CCleaner first...to clear temp files.

Then download, install, update, and do thorough scans with the following.
SuperAntispyware
MalwareBytes
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.62

Have them remove all that they find...

that I come back to this site and thank you! You were right on point, I followed your instructions posted here and it worked like magic. I was surprised to see how much stuff Norton didn't find. I was soo infected! And I think it was a rogue like you were guessing :thumb: I think the nimda guest user acct was a trick to confuse those with average computer skills, such as myself, into thinking it is nimda. Happily I will not be using Norton 360 anymore.

Im glad to see that there are still people out there who still believe in helping others out. I don't know what I would have done had you not dropped your knowledge on me......probably would have ended up spending alot of money..

Thanks again & Best Regards
