celeron 733 @ 1.1GhZ even possible??

Post by sic_6 »

i don't think it is, but if anyone could tell me if should even remotely hope to reach 1.1GhZ with a 733MhZ chip, i'd appreciate it. thanks. Ps. i've burnt it in for 2 weeks straight

well my bios only lets me increase the volts by 10%, and the only other way to increase it is by taping pins on the prock. i just have stock cooling for now but before i waste money i want to know if it's even remotely possible. i don't wanna **** up the chip.

I don't know...

Intel's are not O/Cing as well as the AMD's.

How high have you revved it so far? I would figure an even 1GHz would be the practical limit of that CPU

U'll need watercooling for that speed and u'll still wear the chip down(only my opinion, havent found a backing for this but it just seems right) Just get a real good cooling setup and OC it as high as u can keeping the full load temps around 35C then stop.

You won't know 'til you try. RAM, motherboard and cooling aren't the only factors in o'cing. No two CPUs are alike.

High speed Celeron chips can't overclock much cuz they're already close to the physical max the chip can handle cuz Celerons have very low chip quality. Think about it, Intel is marketing this chip towards the value market, so obviously quality will be sacraficed. Consider yourself lucky if you can get past 800Mhz and remain stable with normal cooling.

There is also no point in using watercooling with a celeron because it is not the heat that is the problem, its the physical limits of the chip. And why waste all that time and money on a celeron? Even if you can reach 1Ghz stable, you won't be getting much of a performance boost because of the crippled 128k L2 cache, and low bus speeds.

The L2 cache performance is application dependent and the bus speeds will increase when o'ced. The poor performance is a result of the technology behind the chip. It's just starting to show it's age. The Duron runs circles around it and it has an even smaller L2 cahce.

i m 100% sure that a Duron 700 can do it, but donno about the Celery. Even though u can, u 'll need a water cooling

Not necessarily. It ultimately depends on RAM quality, the motherboard and the quality of the individual CPU.
