Expect outdated magazines and crappy daytime TV. Then they'll herd you into a room and ask you some questions. The questions are to see if the lawyers want ya on the jury, each one can eliminate a certain number of the pool to "stack" the jury as best they can. Supposed to be that they are looking for peers, but it's a little game of demographics to them.

Definitely take a book to read that's for sure. It will help pass the time. It's simple enough. You guys will get paraded into a holding room and will wait there until instructed what to do next. They usually put alot of put together and then break them down for each case. Some last just a few hours and others can be longer.
He speaks the truth on a good book. Last time I had jury duty, I was there for 8 hours and finished my book.Roody wrote:Definitely take a book to read that's for sure. It will help pass the time. I already told them I couldn't make it the first time so I assume I have to go this time. Is that correct or can I get out of it again? It's been about 11 months that they reminded me of it and I have to go in about 5 weeks.Spammy wrote:it is easy to get out of dude.![]()

You have a tough time getting out of it.24giovanni wrote:I already told them I couldn't make it the first time so I assume I have to go this time. Is that correct or can I get out of it again? It's been about 11 months that they reminded me of it and I have to go in about 5 weeks.
The day you have to go...they tell you to call before you leave. Chances are greater than 50% that when you call..you won't have to go in, because the case got settled before actually going to trial. If this is the case...you are considered to have served...and you're off the list til whatever the list drawing time is for your area. The phone call deadline is usually early enough so you can still go back to work and be able the make the money at your job you would have lost.

You are better served to take care of jury duty now if time will allow it. As for Jury Duty itself there is usually a set time within the week you could get called. It's really not a big deal man. I think you will find it an interesting process to be a part of.24giovanni wrote:Good idea on the book...thanks. Is what YOS said probably true. I got called back in May. the case was public intoxication and resisting arrest...I have a problem with people getting drunk and causing problems...drunk drivers are THE worse...just about every accident my family was in was because the guy that his our cars was drunk off his ass.

I got called last time and had to wait 3 days from 8~5pm just for the lawyer to examine the jury pool before it got to me and there were still about 25 people after me. Got off because I have school to attend and already missed some classes. Got a check for $15 after a few months for serving but parking costed me $30 since the court parking was always full.
