Help on WRT54G Router: cannot connect to web utility, but everything else work!
I setup my WRT54G router on my small network without any problem. used the default ip of the router as 192.168.1.1.
suddenly, after 2 weeks of used i could no longer access the web utility. its just a blank page, no username and password asked. im sure i didn;t change any config prior to that.

When you say web utility, do you mean the Linksys router interface menu?? Are you trying to connect via wireless or ethernet? Can you ping the gateway (192.168.1.1)? Can you release and renew your IP (e.g., ipconfig/release; ipconfig/renew)?
P2E
yes i can ping the router ip add, 192.168.1.1
im sure about this because im trying to access the router using a wired LAN on the network, and the gateway configured on my PC is 192.168.1.1 and i dont have problem accessing the internet on my pc, its just that i cant access thru web Linksys router interface menu
help pls.........

Browser gummed up with adware? Clear temp internet files 'n cookies...and try.
Test with a better browser like Opera or Firefox...just to see if Internet Exploader is gummed up.
already tried that but still cant get into the web interface of my wrt54g router

resetting the router is jusy my last option. for now im trying to look other ways...if there are any to be able to access the web utility of the router without resetting.YeOldeStonecat wrote:Making sure you know the settings on it before you do this....push the reset button...which puts the router back to factory defaults. Set it up again.
No other "router" on the WAN side of it, correct? What is it plugged into?

If you know for a fact the router is 192.168.1.1ultimo wrote:resetting the router is jusy my last option. for now im trying to look other ways...if there are any to be able to access the web utility of the router without resetting.
Your computer must be in the same IP range, from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254, same subnet mask.
Connected via ethernet cable so we don't worry about wireless mistakes....
If you can get replies when you ping 192.168.1.1...you should be good.
Now....assuming the above is valid..and you're indeed connected to the router...if the web admin does not open up when you point your browser to 192.168.1.1...either the router is bogged down, and requires a power cycle, or your web browser has some issues...like a malware infection.
Solutions? Try to power cycle the router...to clear the router. I have seen a screwed up router that didn't offer up the web admin until it had a hard factory reset.
Clean up the web browser, make sure your PC is clean from malware. Clear up temp internet files..this is a common cause. Browser has correct connection settings. Try another brand of browser. Try another PC.

I have the same problem and it is driving me crazy. On both my computer and my roommates laptop I can connect to the router but not the internet. I have tried factory resetting it, power on/off, changing settings and doing the /run stuff, but nothing works. When I plug my computer straight into the modem it works fine.
Sometimes it gives me some "unable to find certificate" crap and won't let me onto the modem at all, but with some work I can usually get on. Using the linksys CD It will find the router but says "Cannot connect to the Internet, try resetting your modem" which does nothing. Help?

Similar problem... but worse.
I lost the ability to use my router last night. I am unable to access my WRT54G through the web utility using address 192.168.1.1 (tried forcing ports :80, :88, and :8080). When I enter it into IE (which I NEVER use, so there is nothing in cache) it tells me the page cannot be displayed.
Physical setup: Vista laptop connected to port 1 LAN on router. Static IP on computer set to 192.168.1.107 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.1.1.
I am able to connect to the wired network, but with limited access. I can ping the router at 192.168.1.1 with four proper responses.
I have performed a hard reset several times, using different methods. Here are the methods I used in the format of <power on reset button hold time> / <power off reset hold> / <reboot reset hold> N/A if button was released.

I have been able to access the web utility since the router started acting up intermittently and when I did the access password and username reset to default, but it seems now that I can't get in at all. When I was able to get in I updated the firmware to the latest Linksys firmware, and was able to connect to the web utility after that as well intermittently.
If I ever get back in again, I have the firmware for DD-WRT ready to go... hopefully that will fix the problem, but first I need to get in to flash the firmware.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Sometimes there's a slim chance of breathing another breath of life into it...
You can Google around and find the old Linksys "tftp" flash utility, basically a GUI version of trivial ftp commands.
Also in the following link, if you feel like popping the cover off, there's a pin shortening technique, I used this once
