Hey,
Is there a way to limit a cpu on a router to a certain bandwidth usage?
Heres the scenario,
My cpu=star wars galaxies. i get a ping of 75
my roomate= bit torrent. knocks my ping up to 1000 or more
which leaves my gaming system in lag hell.
im using a lynksys router, with sbc dsl. if someone needs more info i can make available, right now just trying to find out any options.
any help is highly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

or, run a server through your pc, or get another, keep em side by side, and you can control the bandwidth, proving I have not already taken control of it , to fold the 3 labtops barried in yor backyard. I don't like wireless, I see it in the eye of the bird...YARDofSTUF wrote:I dont think any linksys router can limit bandwidth, the reason ur ping is going to hell hi cuz the roommate is eating up all the upload bandwidth as well as the download.
See if he can chill on uploading when u play games.

Depending on what model Linksys you have you might be able to download an open-sourced firmware revision that allows more granular contol of the network. I've never done this and only heard of such things, but google is your friend.

I like uTorrent because it is lightweight and barely slows down your system

and usually the ISP tells and gives you the bandwidth you get
