Should I be worried?

Post by Firestorm ZERO »

I have Zonealarm the latest one (6.1.737.000). I was looking through my logs and I saw something strange.

My P2P apps (like Azureus, uTorrent, Share) were sending out on port 25 (the send mail port). Before you ask, yes all were downloaded from the offical sites.

I also did an anti-spy with various programs and did a virus scan. All ok. Latest Windows fixes installed.

Why would these apps be attempting to use this port?

I recommend Peer Guardian
it blocks known ip(s) of governemnt agencies, anti P2p groups, etc... the folks you don't want to get inside your system. it's free.

those apps shouldn't be using your mail port...
what OS are running? If XP, use the firewall. let me know if you need help configuring it.

have you ran a/v scans?
what a/v and anti-spyware apps are you using?

Strangely enough for the first time the other day I saw something similiar. My AVG antivirus with Firewall was warning me of something similiar. I use Bitlord myself and I also use Peerguardian as well. It started happening after I downloaded a torrent file. I was thinking maybe something in the torrent file itself. Thse people try to come up with all kinds of ways to spam when they can.
