PPPoE or PPPoA

Post by krackerjak »

my understanding is that most ADSL is one or the other. how do i tell which i have? i am using bellsouth adsl. also after applying the a patch(from the Navas Group) my d/l went from 120KB to 160KB, but I am seeing posts taking about far faster d/l's, like 700KB! I have the 1.5MB connection and I think 256 up. During install i remember the name PPoE or PPoA coming up, but can't remeber which it was. BTW,what patch are the people seeing 700KB using? I want it!

Hey I have BellSouth ADSL. Where do you live? If you dial-up using DUN, then you probably have PPPoA. Everyone that I know who is a BS customer and has PPPoE uses Enternet 300.

krackerjak, the max you can get on a 1.5mbps DSL line -- w/transmission overhead factored in -- is about 160KBps (kiloBYTES per sec).

The people that claim 700KBps are either--(1) on cable, or (2) are witnessing IE miscalculations, speed burts, and/or are downloading previously cached files. Thus, they aren't reall getting those speeds. The only way you can get speeds like that on DSL is if you have an 8mbps or so line (Sprint ION).

I live in South Carolina(Greenville area). I guess I'm getting the max speed, so I can't complain! out of curiosity, is PPPoA better or worse than PPPoE?
