I lost my laptop. I am thinking of trace the MAC address to find it. Anyone know how?

Tracing it via your company network or via the entire internet?

If you're talking the entire internet, you won't be able to....Firewalls, NAT, proxies, and others will prevent this. It would be like trying to find a computer via its NETBios name via the internet :(

Sorry dude.

:) Hopefully it was a thinkpad with fingerprint and the security chip installed. At least then you know your data is safe.

The only alternative is to check ebay, hawk shops etc... for laptops for sale and look for a matching serial #, but that would probably be the first thing to get scratched off.

Its possible as long as the system is not behind a router to determain if it is or was connected to the internet at a location by mac address, however the police would have to request the information from the internet service providers and you would have to hope that it had been connected directly to a modem.
