A proposal for a change in the Gen Forum...
I propose that a change be made -- that all posts in the General Forum no longer contribute to your post count, only posts in other forums do, and those posts can't be spam; they must be germane to the forum.

Burke I disagree, I have gotten a lot of info from the general forum, sure I know about the spam being sent, but if in the general forums, Post counts encourage people to post, why not?........I am really not sure what post counts have to do with this change you are proposing, but I think it is a bad idea..JMHO....I did get a lot of good recipes for the holidays from the Gen forums..
..so maybe I am being selfish..
Have a good day sir..

When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer "Present" or "Not guilty."

I'd agree, if I cared that the next guy had more posts than I did.
I find it amusing when someone goes through an insane post-phase type dealio.

I like the no post count idea for the general forum. Post count is over rated IMO, which is why I have mine reduced when it hits a certain level.
It would be too time consuming to determine spam based post on other boards though, so the other proposal would never happen.
I'd like to see spam result in a negative post count similar to FYAD on something awful.
*Revised*
(sorry Pat, Drunk Burke, Brent and Spammy Sammy.)
That wouldn't work either unless the hack applied to a specific board.

I voted no. But NOT because it's not fair. I just don't see a need for it. I'm pretty sure JCOS and others would still spam regardless if it counted towards their post count. Eh, you get rid of post count's everyone will start touting their join dates or dick size, or somethin'. braggin' rights are for fun, not to be taken seriously.
Burke,
As a practical matter it'd be very difficult to implement and enforce. Who decides what is "germane?". In effect the Moderators would have to read and approve of every single post in every single forum besides the Gen one. For basically no practical gain to the site. It would also confuse new members.
I think I understand your goal, but I honestly doubt you'll get there using this.
