What temperature do you keep your AC at?

Post by Illini25 »

Minir's thread about conserving energy got me thinking...What temperature do you have your AC set at?

I've been having mine set up fairly high. Around 76. Basically, just to keep the humidity down. Tell you the truth, it's still fairly comfortable too. Plus, saving a bit of electricity in the process. :)

I'm still experimenting on mine, because it's a new house and this is it's first summer. Right now I have it set for 78 while we are away from home, 73 when you walk in the door from work, and 75 when we sleep.

^^^^^ What he said. 72 or so, but it's on continuously from Mid may to Mid Sept. Welcome to Virginia Beach, where people explode from the heat/humidity.

Downstairs is set to a constant 75. Upstairs is programmed to go into setback to 85 while I'm at work and sleeping ( I sleep downstairs), and then drop to 75 while I am home.

I can tell that the unit downstairs is running more and more as the days get hotter. During the spring it would hardly come on at all.

Hi Illini25

I usually am in the 25C to 27C area. I very seldom change it, however it is necessary to do so at times.

I like you feel the need to simply remove the Humidity. I don't want it Cold.

I keep my Windows covered during the day to lessen the Sunlight coming in and do my Laundry at night.

One other thing, My Mom does it and it drives crazy. i bought her a little Radio, but she still uses the TV on the Music Channels.

A lot of people simply turn on the TV in the morning so they can listen to Music and it runs all day long. The Heat it produces is considerable and the cost of Hydro compared to a small Radio is... well a lot :D

Glad your enjoying this Energy thing. It's something we mostly don't think about, but a little thought now and again can easily pay for a least a Tank of Gas a month. Not too shabby Eh! :)

regards

About 76. Sometimes at night I turn it down farther to make it come on more frequently at night when it cools down outside a tad. Rarely, if ever do I turn it up any warmer. I mean, what's the sense of having A/C?

I luvvvvvvvvv my A/C. I hope I never get spoilt having it. :) Maybe I already am.

Guess it's all relative to where you live. 80 probably feels great to you compared to 100+ outside.

I definitely agree Snuf. Just depends on where you live. And what Unholy has mentioned.

78 to 80 or so, but my computer room is a few degrees warmer, right now it is 83 in here and it feels okay to me, when you work outside all day in this heat/humidity it doesn't take much to make you feel cooler.

plus i am a tight wad when it comes to paying the power bill.

Depends on the weather. If its hot hot we keep it at like 22 which Is chilly. And if its just warm out we keep it at about 25.

I don't like visitors staying long...so when they turn blue from the frigid cold...they go home early. Plus it keeps my beer chilled.
