Thinking about moving over to Vonage....

Post by nepenthe »

Is anyone else utilizing phone over internet? Our telephone bills have been ridiculous and perhaps Vonage or any of its ilk might be a money saver.

Any opinions are welcome...

Thank you,
david

I have it, it sounds just fine......since I'm rarely home, I picked the lowest plan ($14.99), which gets me 500 minutes local/regional/long distance. I use maybe 120 a month between the wife and I, so it's a real money saver. With Verizon/IDT combo, I was paying a little over $40 a month...so it's a good deal, I'd say go for it!

BTW, I LOVE the avatar!!! :rotfl:

Around here (California) you can get unlimited local and long distance for $40 a month. That way you don't have to worry about someone using your phone and you having to call for them, or give a Vonage tutorial everytime. Also Olivia can pick up the phone and call people without you worryng about it when you back is turned ;) No mystery charges for calls to Nambia :D
(Well I think it covers international calls)

Also Vonage sounds a little too much like Ownage :D

I just got my VOIP phone put in Friday and I like it real well. Being a comcast employee I get mine for free right now but it will cost me 15$ a month after that. Mine works pretty well so I can't complain.

Are you using it with a router by any chance?

The only setbacks are if your internet goes down...so does your phone service. There is also the problem with localized 911 calling. Since you have kids...not sure thats the way you would wanna go, god forbid if any emergency occurs.

I've been using Vonage for over a year and a half now. Although it was unavailable in my town at first which made it only possible to be contacted by outside callers if they called long distance, which sucked, but now it is local and is all good. Cheap but very functional. As long as you have a good ISP and they do not suffer from frequent down times etc., you'll like vonage. Make sure to activate your 911 calling abilities.

PEACE!!

I'd like to hear opinions on this as well ... I'm running a 3 (sometimes more) PC home network ... just wondered how Vonage would fit in ...

I have a 4 PC network at home with a netgear wireless router and it works great......

Also, I believe I read that Vonage is the only VOIP that allows you to dial 911, but you must activate through the browser interface...it takes a few days for activation, but once it's done, you will be able to call 911.
