About a foot of snow out here last weekend, which ended up being a pain in the ass because the 5 snow plows that they had for the entire area took about 4 days to get everything plowed. That, and they tend to plow the snow to the middle of the road.
This picture I took while heading down to West Texas A&M University to pick up my daughter. The round trip normally takes about a half hour...on this day it took about two hours.

And to top it off, we're supposed to get another 6 inches tonight.

Residents in the Washington area scrambled for food and supplies, but many found they were too late.
"As you see, I'm in front of Whole Foods and half of the food is gone already," Denise Wright said on a shopping trip for staples.

I had almost went out to get a burger earlier but it's snowing so hard with a little sleet I just said ohh well... 10mins later I heard on the scanner 3 vehicles crashed in that same intersection cause of some idiot driving a car and not a 4 wheel drive.YeOldeStonecat wrote:French Toast...and don't forget the BACON!!!

4 wheel drive doesn't mean 4 wheel stop. It doesn't matter what you drive, you have to be careful. I have gone by plenty of 4x4s sitting in the ditch.Sava700 wrote:I had almost went out to get a burger earlier but it's snowing so hard with a little sleet I just said ohh well... 10mins later I heard on the scanner 3 vehicles crashed in that same intersection cause of some idiot driving a car and not a 4 wheel drive.
Take your time, and leave room in case of having to stop. Thats the best way.

Yup, some drivers get a false sense of security with 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive. Especially in icy conditions.Lefty wrote:4 wheel drive doesn't mean 4 wheel stop. It doesn't matter what you drive, you have to be careful. I have gone by plenty of 4x4s sitting in the ditch.

I agree you do need to apply common sense in a 4 wheel drive for it to be effective and some are better than others such as higher clearance and more weight.Lefty wrote:4 wheel drive doesn't mean 4 wheel stop. Doesn't help you with the more common types of accidents with snow/ice. Height/ground clearance has zero bearing on ability to make turns on a slippery surface. Actually hurts it as they shift weight to the outside tires more instead of keeping it more evenly on all four. Weight actually hurts you..much father stopping distance, and the desire of the vehicle to maintain going straight when you're trying to negotiate a turn or do an evasive turn.Sava700 wrote: some are better than others such as higher clearance and more weight.![]()
