I recommend
The microsoft routers are crap, if you want a xbox compatible router I dont think linksys lists it on their box so check on the xbox website, I use a D-link. their hardware is cheaper and the router works flawlessly.

Have you used one, or just because Microsoft makes it? The MS routers are actually pretty nice, Also there are settings in the firmware in optimization for the X-Box. My D-link 614+ Just quit working so i ran to Circuit City and snagged up a MS RN700, I love having firewall settings and all the other goods. Very nice in my opinion. BTW, This is the second D-link that took a sh*t on me. Might as well buy Belkin.

Defind "X-box compatible " router. NAT is NAT, my wife's kid's x-box has worked fine with all my routers (I change routers like every 6 months "just to play with them").
And Microsofts wireless routers perform pretty well. I've compared them myself in throughput tests against many other wireless when I'm setting them up, playing around. Yeah it's no Sonicwall TZW or Orinoco system, but for a home market router, better than many.
How many different brand routers do you have experience with?

XBOX COMPATIBLE
What Does Xbox Compatible Mean?
Want to connect to Xbox Live as quickly and painlessly as possible? Look for Xbox Compatible devices and providers.
The Xbox team and Xbox Compatible providers are working together to make sure you select the right service offering and have the information you need to get connected. When you buy a router or integrated router/modem with the Xbox Compatible logo, you can be sure it has been tested extensively on Xbox Live.
The following Linksys routers are Xbox Compatible:
MODEL
BEFSR41 (v3)
BEFW11S4 (v4)
Some of these routers might not work or might need workarounds to work with Xbox Live. To find out more about these Linksys routers, click the model number below.
For instance if you own the v2 like I did people would randomly drop from your hosted games and you will get disconnected from xbox live, EVEN WITH THE WORKAROUND. So anyone who doesnt think xbox compatible means anything if you own a router you need to do either a workaround or had to upgrade the firmware for xbox compatibility and it wasn't fully tested, take my word switch routers out, and see if it makes a difference with your problems.

Dunno, he's been playing it through, oh, lemme see what routers I've used in the past year and a half...Nexland ISB SOHO, Linksys BEFSR81, Linksys BEFSX41, Netopia 3586. I don't think I've had my Netgear running at home for quite some time. I think I can add a Sonicwall to the list...I had one running for a few weeks this spring...didn't hear him complain.
"XBox compatible" to me is just a marketing ploy.

I can see a short stay here for you. Strike 1!
Why are firmware upgrades such as show stopper for you, if needed? How long have you worked on routers for? Or even been in the IT business?

it's obvious you don't know a horse's ass from basic networking. firmware is like a bios, you don't fix it if it isn't broken.

It is okay to have an opinion here ... but calling somone a MORON is not really necessary.
Kewl your jets and post away. Your opinion is welcomed here ... just keep the comments to yourself.
