And not to mention people with different resolutions are gonna say "well this was only 4 lines in my resoution which is 1280x1024" when its 6 or 7 lines in 800x600. so we need to set a certian limit on to it needs to be 5 lines or under in *x* resolution. its up to the mods to decide that resolution

This was so not an issue to start a battle over, let alone make a rule on.

Whose idea was this anyway, and what exactly prompted it?

Bottom line is this, the sig will be 5 lines or they will be modified by a moderator or philip.

This is the new policy on SG about the signatures and it is not going to change. Arguing about it is pointless. If you have a complaint by all means send it in to Philip, he owns the board.

I talked to Brent, and he said that users were complaining about the sizes. However, a more EFFECTIVE solution woulda been to just turn sigs off in user preferences... *sigh*

well it most likely came about from ppl saying sigs were too big so why would it not matter now that we say there too small, who picked 5?

Phillip if u picked 5 then pls explain why 5 and why 10 is too much, i havent seen a board stricter than 10 and it just seems childish to me, it cant be that its too much data cause its texted adn i cant see how 10 lines is annoying or ridiculously long.

thx

people i agree with mouse here, a signature is a SIGNATURE, not your own personal roadside billboard, you dont sign your checks with all that bs and you shouldnt post it here, your alias and a quote or something similar will fit just fine in the space your allowed, if we wanted to know how fast of a computer you have (or how fast of one you want us to think you have) then we will ask

btw there is a little thing called a "profile" that you can put all your computer and internet connection information in where it will still be accessible to everyone as if you didnt know

Ok let me make this clear about where I stand...

to me.. you are treating us as children... I think the majority of us know when a sig is over done.

For those that dont a mod can easily change it.. is that to much work? No one is asking you to go through every last member.. If you see on you dont like.. fix it..

Let the people make there decisions here.. the majority will the correct one.

Even though I agree with you on the subject, I am somewhat hesitant to the last statement. Remember the principle of democracy, majority rules but minority has rights.

Not all EUs do that Mouse, and you know it! I believe that the statment was that the majority of people would do what you asked, even while complaining.

I am not accusing everyone of doing that but there are those who know the policy on this and openly disregard it.

excuse a few members for not being perfect.

this is about sig's

posting in the wrong forum daily would be wrong as well as annoying...

If you do it once and a while unintentionally how hard is it to move it?

Dont try to tell me you consider moving your mouse work...

Like I said many posts b4... What is greater... excessive sigs or sigs that are just fine...

why not get rid of the EXTRA large ones..

What if I decide to run in lower res? And jimbob's sig that used to be five lines is suddenly 6 or 7.. will you edit it for my benefit?

thinkining we must have gone to the same high school :D

And as far as this whole thing goes, I think the 5 line rule is a little silly, but can't argue it if it is what the owner wants. I can question it, but I will not argue with it. Just going to force some to be a little more creative with there sigs. is a good thing. And Mouse you handled this well i think for being the messenger.

Mods don't get paid, they are here doing a service for the owners and members for free. Editing anything takes time too. Prey is right in not wanting the job, it doesn't have any perks, only stress and flames. I've noticed a lot of people have flamed mouse since she took the position of Mod here, when before that everyone loved her dearly. What's up with that, she's only doing what she's been asked to do.

mouse is one of the nicest people I've ever met and she does what the owners asked her to do (without pay too) She takes the time to explain the ownrs decisions to everyone (for nothing) If anyone wants to complain, they should be complaining to the person who CAN change this decision, in PM's (or publically so everyone can read his answer.)

BTW - Mods don't have access to edit sigs, only Admins do, so if anyone is going to go look for large sigs and edit them, it will have to be Philip, and he's a busy man.
Everyone has a right to post an opinion on any issue, but to flame a person who works to enhance the quality for all the members, and does exactly what she's asked to do by the people who put faith in her to Mod these forums, is going a bit too far.

How would all the members like to come to a forum where no mods existed, and rules wee non existant, because the pay was so low no one wanted the job?

Mouse doesn't make the rules, she only reports them to the members in the best way she knows how, so if anyone has issue with the rules, or the delivery of them, they should be contacting the man himself Philip, or be silent.
Give mouse a break!!

That'll be a ban.. and I don't totally agree either.

Mouse doesn't make the decisions. Phillip does. They talk, reach a decision, and Mouse told us. I believe the quote it:

"Don't kill the messinger".

However, this sig thing IS Bull.. and he is right about SGers having no real input.

SG has close to 14,000 members registered. Out of that there is probably at least half that still come around and read, or post. I see only a very small number of those members in here complaining about such a trivial issue.

So if majority rules, then you've all been outvoted by default :)

Since you all would like input

give it to us :)

What would you like?

/As you will find out in the coming answers to this question "What do you want us to do about sigs"

there will be ALL DIFFERENT answers on the number of lines to allow, to turning off sigs, to having sigs on with no rules to using the cp to not show sigs

everyone will differ

but how can we accomodate everyone's wishes?

answer is we can't

someone has to step up and say this is how it's going to be, and that is your Presdent and CEO Philip

Us mods as a Collective (no pun intended) discuss our views and suggestions all together as a team, then we all decide something as a Whole, Philip looks at what we said and suggested and takes appropriate action

simple as that really

That is totally false. You're saying that 7000 members come here and view/post regularly?
There are currently 43 members and 40 guests on the boards. | Most users ever online was 171 on 07-14-2001 at 02:23 AM.
i HIGHLY doubt that there are still 7000 members that have anything to do with SG.
