Minir, you have been a great cornerstone here, providing steady informative posts we have all enjoyed.
It would be a tragedy to see you go/stop posting....
Your first reaction is our own built in mechanism, of fleeing that which displeases.
Rethink it over some..

well, maybe it takes a sacrificial lamb like minir to get your attention that these type of threads deserve their own forum section....as suggested by me and many others in the past. If you want to talk shop....then you have to go in there and look for it...you invite it upon yourself by doing so.YeOldeStonecat wrote:I'll be sorry to see you go Minir...I know I can speak for many members here in saying that you'd be missed if you never came back.
This is why I hate religious and political threads...I hate them with a passion.
I see no reason to have political and religious discussions in the general forum because it's 100% obvious, and it can be shown using trend analysis, that none of the threads are productive in any size shape or form.
As for some of you....and you know who I am talking to....as a friend...I think you guys go too far sometimes and I also think that some of you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. I think you just wanna argue...maybe out of boredom. Again, as your friend.....

This is one of the saddest posts I have, read on speedguide's general forum, thus making it a very sad day for me as well as for more other members than I could possibly count. You have always been here for others with your encouragement, support, shared articles of interest and laughter. I cannot tell you how many times, in the "rough roads" of my life, that I have come here looking for and appreciating all of the above. More like you are needed here, not less...and you imo have always been the ultimate leader in those fields. Please consider just taking some time for you and returning at a later date. You will be so sorely missed here and so badly needed.
Every forum has its own idiots, though some here probably top the all time list, or inconsiderates who just do not care at all. It is even sadder to think that they might have won, and caused one of our most respected members to leave.
I was once given the ultimate honor here by another member...who called me the female minir to this site, and I cherish that to this day. Ya want me to try and wrestle this place without ya? Thats a scary thought! I miss you already. Please take care my friend.

I agree with UOD, threads like political and Religion based need their own forum, or as others would call it (Provide proof of everything you say forum).
Nobody can win a argument on either of these two subjects, so best to just put them in their own area or out right ban them IMO, but I shouldn't be saying this cause I don't have proof or 10links to explain what I just said.... I reckon I can go GOOGLE them! LOL
Minir, I drink a cold one for ya!
come on back!

Personally I'm against that also...and it's been talked about for a LONG time. All it does is move the junk to another room in the house. Members would still get riled up, and people would still end up leaving the house insulted.UOD wrote:well, maybe it takes a sacrificial lamb like minir to get your attention that these type of threads deserve their own forum section....as suggested by me and many others in the past. All it does is move it to another location..but it's still under the roof of Speedguide.

The members that would potentially get riled up would bring it upon themselves by going in there. I would have zero sympathy for anyone that left because they got their feathers ruffled by going INTO a forum that is known to carry potentially offensive conversation.YeOldeStonecat wrote:Personally I'm against that also...and it's been talked about for a LONG time. And yes, it would be moving it to another room, how is that bad for the image of Speedguide? I don't see religious or political threads as being general in nature. They aren't....they are very specific and are created to cater to a certain crowd.
I am came to SG for help, then I offered my help for a year(giveback in the tweaks forums), then I decided to get to know ya'll and hang out. Like the majority of folks, I came for help and for fun...not to argue or fight or to make enemies. I stick around because I like to keep on top of all things tech and SG offers that. Do I enjoy a good debate amongst friends...ABSOLUTELY. But I also know WHO I am debating with and know their limitations.
Minir offered alot in the tech news arena....I especially enjoyed his post about the LAME codecs recently. Stuff like that will be missed.
The question that needs to be asked is this: How did we fail to keep a good person like Larry here? And this question needs to be asked by all of us.

maybe Larry left for other personal reasons?
I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

I'm with ya. Can't say making a seperate forum would fix the problem. If people who get riled up and don't want to read religious threads still do it under General Discussions then they will do it anywhere on here.YeOldeStonecat wrote:Personally I'm against that also...and it's been talked about for a LONG time. you "call" whatever you need to call. I already explained myself in the other thread - I made a joke. I wasn't nasty to a person on this forum. I've been in arguments on here, sure - a few that I regret, but I have never come on here with the express purpose of goading someone or making them unhappy or uncomfortable. You found a joke I made in bad taste - that's fine, but I don't see that as anywhere near the same thing as when someone comes here and specifically baits someone else with the express purpose of hurting them. I didn't post what I did to hurt anyone, I posted what I did to make people laugh. You didn't like it - that's fine. But don't put me in the category of people here who just come here to hurt others, because THAT, my friend, is bullshit.
