The credit card co's DO need to take responsibility for issuing people credit and being more forthcoming with all the details of a persons credit card agreement
after 15 years of seeing this IMHO it boils down to this ...
no one held a gun to your head forcing you to spend money you didn't have
True, but predatory credit practices make it more like crack dealers trying to entice people to try the product, KNOWING that they cannot afford the debt systems these cards operate. Huge late fees, interest that jumps as much as 25% for a single late payment, and so on. The lenders bear some responsibility for irresponsible and predatory practices. But no one is doing anything about those large political contributors. Except making it near impossible to escape their clutches.

all the bullsheet and no real facts here.
pathetic.
over 55% of BK's are entirely related to medical bills.
When you have doctors making insurance carriers pay $100 for a blood test that only costs $30, then taking a $70 kickback; suddenly the picture clarifies. (source: wsj)

a medical situation compunds the existing problem ... being overextended and not preparing yourself financially for a worst case scenario ...of course the huge amounts that add up very quickly in a medical situation are the straw that breaks the camels back ... and it makes the decision easy ....there isn't a checkbox when you file asking the reason you are filing ....the trustee asks questions ....then asks for supporting documents to support the filing if needed...
I can only assume the WSJ was simply asking people why they filed ...sort of an exit poll I guess ....and people always tell the truth in court
55-45 ..almost a split .. again its a 2 way street
and 8.50 for an advil is ridiculous .. both sides are to blame but Big CC has the money to lobby for the legislation

Offensive
the wsj article wasn't related to bk'ing, just to pathetic abuse by doctors of our medical system.Izzo wrote:a medical situation compunds the existing problem ... being overextended and not preparing yourself financially for a worst case scenario ...of course the huge amounts that add up very quickly in a medical situation are the straw that breaks the camels back ... and it makes the decision easy ....there isn't a checkbox when you file asking the reason you are filing ....the trustee asks questions ....then asks for supporting documents to support the filing if needed...
