Police kill dog ...
Hard to say what went through that officers head. Possibly he has a phobia of dogs. Whatever he was thinking, he felt threatened enough to kill the dog. I find it hard to believe he did it for any other reason. He was there, we weren't. He received a call about robbery suspects, we didn't. It's hard to put yourself in the shoes of someone under that kind of stress.
Still, even with that said, the officer made a mistake, a big one. His training seems inadequate, or he isn't police material.
I've met lots of police officers, some through friends, other times through my own actions. I can tell you this, I have never been mistreated by an officer (though I've heard, and seen on TV many officers get out of line). I have found treating them with respect, I get a degree of respect in return.
UOD, no offence to you, but I have a big disagreement with your statements about buying them a new dog. IMHO calling these people and offering to buy them a new dog would be a very insulting hurtfull thing to do. (I believe you mean well though)
My cat was killed a month or 2 ago by a car. It hurt very deep. I don't blame the driver as it was not his fault, cats are unpredictable, and do dart across roads. I blame myself for allowing him outside.
My cat was my best friend UOD and no amount of money, and no other cat will make me feel any better. His (Comet) death tore up the whole family, almost as if it was one of us. I say almost because the loss of one of us would have been worse to deal with, but the loss of our buddy was devestating.
Personally I would view a call to help buy me a new cat as a cruel misunderstanding of my loss.
