Here we go with the Reality World, first we need to get you Valley Girls on the right sheet of music first. And then we can start talking about Reality.Originally posted by punk_princess
Yes, punk is something completely different then it was in your Milli Vanilli days. I mean come on guys, if you would get your heads out of the stereotypical pop generation and actually get a glimpse of reality, maybe you would realise that.

This is the craziest thread I've seen since I've been here.
My contribution is the rant I've pasted below. It's not mine, but from someone I knew. He wrote this in 10 grade I think. It is absolute truth. So..... "punks" and ppl who bitch about "sellouts".... please read:
My gripe this month is the little people who conform to non-conformity. particularly (name removed). but he's just an example. he's not the only one... just the first one to come to mind. anyway, you see them everywhere. the **cking non-conformists. and do you know how you can tell that they're non-conformists? because they all look the same. (name removed) and i were in williamsburg this summer and i was looking around @ all of the little wanna-be punx. the funny thing is that they look exactly like the wanna-be punx in huntsville. hah-hah. funny. yeah yeah. they have the same tee-shirts, and the daring ones wear vinyl pants. and they sit in groups and smoke cigarettes. because cigarettes are the cool things... yeah yeah. cool cool. and they all listen to the same **cking music. non-conformists. uh-huh. they certainly are non-conformists... i want to be just like them someday. yup yup. See, i like music from the underground... i love half japanese. and the dead milkmen and whiskeytown and so much else. but pop's good too. i listen to rem. they're my favourite. i'm listening to fleetwood mac at the moment... why i dislike (name removed) is that he's one of those elitist underground people. if you listen to a band that sells more than 50,000 records, you are a ****er. if you listen to a band that is on emptyvee every once in a while, then you are a ****er. i mean, i hate emptyvee, and quite frankly, i think that people who only buy stuff that they see on emptyvee or on the pages of billboard, well i think that they should be shot. because a.) there's a lot of good stuff that needs to be noticed and b.) it's just saying "hey. i support corporate rock! cool!"... but that's beside the point. not all pop is bad. in fact, the american public might be mindless zombies who let football games and southpark rule their lives, but hey, football is fun and southpark is a good show. the american public does have @ least a little bit of sense... and it doesn't make sense to buy albums simply because no one's heard of them. i think that a lot of the people do that. And i also think that it's quite funny that they all hate you if you don't listen to what they like. yup yup. they're all alternative. they're all non-conformists. they'll like you, as long as you are like them. yup yup. non-conformists. uh-huh. they'll like you, if you DON'T listen to bands that have a buzzclip. and sure, they all listen to ska. and sure, they all wear skate shoes. and sure, they all liked nirvana but stopped about a year and half later. but they are still "alternative." and yes, they're also open-minded. well, i did hear (name removed) call michael stipe a ****in queer, but they're still open-minded. yes yes. uh-huh. but my biggest gripe now is "who do i like?"... see, there are the people who only do what's popular and visible and shun th rest, and then there are others who just decide to only do the invisible and popularize it and hate everyone else... so what's a kid in the middle to do?

So you are saying just because we don't agree about the milli vanilli conspiracy that we are "non-conformists" Maybe in our eyes you are the ones who don't conform. Your essay, while entertaining and did bring up some good points, is completely not about us at all. We never once claimed not to conform, all we simply said was we didn't agree with the conspiracy. So what if we have our own viewpoints on music?! I mean, obviously you guys do too if you care enough to post on this website. That 10th grader claims to be all anti-stereotypical, yet the first thing he does is stereotype people who don't conform to his way of thinking. I really think you guys need to think before you accuse people of being non-conformists.Originally posted by torsten

I'm not putting you in any category. I think the value of his rant was that people embrace particular kinds of music, not because they love it or because it's good, but instead because they resent people who like something else or because something else is more popular. I'm saying that the popularity of music says NOTHING about it's quality. Sometimes the people who "sell out" create far better music than those who deliberately try to be obscure. That's a point worth making.Originally posted by punk_princess

So are you saying that's the purpse of punk?! is to obscure music?! I could really care less what is popular and what isn't. Just because it is not my preference to like what is popular means nothing. Get over it. You can't try to make me feel bad about not conforming to your preferences.Originally posted by torsten

Great note on ramen, I ate some today as a matter of fact. If you are at work, instead of boiling the water use the coffee pot water, you know the spout that will produce hot water for tea or cocoa. This is only if you have industrial coffee pots though with this spigot, DO NOT PUT COFFEE IN THE RAMEN NOODLES!!Originally posted by lvslr
