Is that limit set by the chip or the socket/MB? I know my MB has a 3GhZ limit.

What does this max speed thing mean? Is that what you could clock it to with UBER COOLING and a EXTREME FSB? If so my XP 1800+ reads 3000. :D

That was part of the P4 bug that Intel found near the release. Originally the next chip was a 3.6gHz for the Granite Bay, But we all know how that went. Now the Cpu is underclocked and fitted with the Quad pumped 800mHz bus. :)

Ah...not that I would try to overclock it that high anyway...highest I've gotten stable was 3300 MHz (220 x15).

That's still a nice OC, By chance do you have Asus mobo? I have read some things about OC limitations on the Asus Mobo's. They said the next Bios Revision will fix the issue. I will find the link. :)

Yep, I have the P4C800 Deluxe. It has some funky memory settings, so at 220 FSB my memory scores went down. I figured it was akin to the divider ratios on the ABIT boards, but I tried all the settings and my memory only hits the 4500-4700 range at the default FSB and DDR400 settings. I even disabled the turbo and enhanced performance settings and still no go.

That new BIOS is up at ASUS's website now. I'll flash it when I get home tonight...

I would imagine memory being the bottleneck of course...

I'm using Corsair XMS PC3500. That's not the problem. It's the BIOS settings. I just have to figure them out.

burke, i dont know if u are enrolled, but you should find a credit card that has BVG (best value guarenteed) it allows u to Pricematch an item you bought to another store for up to 60 days. I dont know if that applies to CPU stuff, but worth a shot

BIOS fix didn't seem to do anything. Same problem with the memory on overclock.

The ratio section has four options:

Auto
DDR266
DDR333
DDR400

That's it. I tried them all, and I thought that Auto would at least scale the RAM speed with the FSB, but only at manually setting it to DDR400 was I able to get up to 215 FSB with the memory still in 1:1 ratio. Beyond that, the RAM slows down.

Oh...I don't worry about it though, since I figure if I want it, I'll spend whatever price I have to to get it. Just like those panties I bought on eBay. :D
