How much should you drink for the maximum protective effect?
How is this protective effect explained?
More scientific research required

My grandmother drank a beer or two every day and she lived to be 100! If she had lasted to her 103rd she would have lived in 3 centuries...
Every normal man must be tempted at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
I often wonder if the voices in my head ever get frustrated because I'm just too damn lazy to climb that clock tower.

I'll drink to that. ;)

My grandmother suffered from a heart problem in London on a tour many years ago. She was not allowed to fly back and was brought home on a ship. The prescribed medicine for her included one large bottle of beer each day on the trip back.

Can't be all that bad, eh?

beer just doesn't taste good.
My opinion.

I hope that I still have good vascular health, because I drink JD Country Kocktails.
But only in good fun with friends.. I'll just have to remember to toast for good health.
and down a dozen.
According to the recommended amount (2 per day)
well I have some catching up to do. :D
get it up, get it in, get it out, and don't mess up my hair!

Beer in general helps to prevent kidney stones, but until now it is not clear which ingredient is responsible for this. Men that drink beer have a smaller chance to get kidney stones, among women this effect is less explicit. This has been revealed in several epidemiological studies, of which you can read the summary in our section scientific research : alcohol and body. Where wine is concerned we can say that some studies have shown a similar positive effect, but this is not the case for strong drinks. All studies showed this positive influence of beer. It is not known whether or not geuze is better to prevent kidney stones compared to other kinds of beer.
It is assumed that the high taking of fluid is responsible for the protective effect on kidney stones. For this purpose water is more suitable than beer. Men should drink two litres of water each day and women one and a half litre.
Just knowing that I may prevent the serious pain of passing a stone ( ), keeps me tipping back a few!

Hi BMED

It's pretty much a Medical given that a couple of drinks a day is good for you. The properties contained within have an effect on the system & the actual calming effect of a couple of drinks after work tends to relieve built up stress.

Most people believe Red Wine the best for this, however that belief is now being challenged in the belief almost any alcoholic beverage has the same advantages.

Some people cannot control drinking and should abstain totally, others may benefit.

I was in the Hospital with a Heart problem years ago and a Patient there at the time was the Retired Doctor who did the Official Autopsies for the region. Somehow the topic of conversation got on to responsible drinking.

He was emphatic that in his years of doing autopsies those who were moderate drinkers had much cleaner Arteries & less Heart disease than those who did not.

He made an Unofficial study of it over the years as it had peeked his interest.

regards

My grandfather used to drink 2 shots of cognac a day until my uncle and grandmother found his stash. 1 year later he died. This was back in '94.

He was no way close to being an alcoholic. Just one shot in at lunch and one at dinner. Oh, he liked his pabst blue ribbon while watching Philly baseball games too.

Well not so expensive if you drink Milwaukee's Best....THE BEAST. As for cold carbonated urine in a can....The Beast will do just fine in that field. It's even worse the morning after.

Never had that, thankfully. It seems like the higher priced stuff can taste just as bad though. I'll admit there is some difference between beers. The worst I've ever had was a warm Red Dog. They had left it in the sun outside the building at school one day and we drank them at lunch. I was kinda sick anyway and had to run back outside to throw up later. Could be part of the reason I hate the taste so much. The best was probably Corona. I tried Sam Adams Boston Lager once, expecting it to be better, but it was just awful.

beer just doesn't taste good, whether or not it is good for health.
the reason I say that is because I don't like carbonated beverages. I don't drink Soda/Pop niether.
Granted the benefits of having a few alcoholic beverages per day, and the health risks of over drinking, its really wise to decide if its really worth it to just look at your overall diet. Make changes if needed.
Healthy Body + Healthy Mind = Healthy Life

Humbolt, Ive tried many different kinds of beer, beer is beer.
With or with out the aftertaste, it still doesn't taste good to me.
