General: Build me a P4

Post by Benign »

What's the best P4 I could build with a 750$ budget?

I have;

Harddrive(s)
Sound
Video
Ethernet
ATX Case
200 or 250 psu
(I have SDRAM, heard it limits the P4 so I guess I need that too)

I will need:

ATX Mobo
Ram
Processor
HS/HSF

Anything else I will need just throw in.. a little above 750$ is cool.. like 800$ max.. but I do mostly online ordering so, I was saving that 50$ for shipping etc.

Thanks

P4 1.6a $145
SPARKLE 350 WATTS ATX UL APPROVED POWER SUPPLY MODEL # FSP350-60BTS $50
MSI 845 Ultra-AR $125
KINGMAX DDR333 PC-2700 256MB $90
Thermaltake DRAGON 478. Heatsink + $25 if nosy and looking cool is important :D

ARKUA TECHNOLOGY 8568 quieter and still strong $21

1.6a is a great overclocker, u'd have a very fast rig and could get a very nice video card or another harddrive like urs and raid them or 2 brand new HDDS to raid!

prices taken from new egg

What he said... minus the heatsink, you want an AVC sunflower... $19 shipped

just bought from newegg about a week back and I have to say no real complaints. They did forget to send me my network card drivers but I guess all things considered that is minor ;) (DAMN YOU NEWEGG!!) JK :)

Now if you're going with a P4 you will need a larger PSU than the 250..300 would be the lowest I'd go. You might also want to think about Rambus RAM...yes I said RAMBUS...it's better than standard SD and maybe even DDR. Although what it does I have no idea :p

Mobo is sorta easy...just make sure you get RAID for multiple HDD's..yadda yadda...make sure you get quality if your gonna OC..yadda yadda yadda....I've been awake all night gaming on my new rig and it's now 12;00 noon here. My chipset is still going strong but my brain needs better cooling...I seem to have overheated it. I smell silicon...ahhhh

gud day

Granite Bay, *according to an intel employee* on the [H]|F, WAS scheduled to be released this year, but apparently will not see daylight until NEXT year... not sure, but if we don't see it by june or july, then next year it is.

as for the new chips, the 533 Mhz bus speed one should be here around may, keeping the socket 478, and those two versions will be around for a while.

ummm, intel is dropping support for rambus, for the reason that DDR is better...
now only if i could get my hands on some DDR.
