depending on your burner
I would suggest you try Clone CD, try and get an older version if you can along with a key.

Clone CD
It does a whole intelligent bad sectory copy of the game.
Which means, that when you copy a game, it may take "hours" just to read it so that you get ALL the bad sectors and gaps in on the CD, like the original.

Exactly
But the CD- to CD actually does the CD to HD first unless you change it in the settings.
The reason for CD to HD first is to capture everything, but beware, I know that the latest Clone CD has some wierd anti weaksector code for those of us living in Canada and the US, meaning you can't backup certain cds unless "You live in another country."

Yea
but one thing, I've been having trouble finding a reader that does raw+95 reading for my back-ups. So far the Pioneer 16X drive doesn't support it either.

The plexie
should work fine for raw-96 reading. might take a while, but it pays to have a plextor.

Ok people ......coming from a software pirate (ok ok im bad whatever) I own a plexter 24X ,but really dont need one, but if have download latest firmware for it, now all you will need is clone cd software latest version ,its free on the net just look for it
Advice! read at 1-4X burn it at 1-4X keep it slow so it can break the safedisc Encryption your probably trying to copy a safedisc 2 game if you read\write to fast will not emulate the safedisc onto blank cd.
Safedisc is a digital "wrapper"or "signature" on the original cd that the programmers designed specially to verify its the original, the way it does that is the game is programmed with instructions to look for this signature on the cd every so often (depending on the program) and allways at exe. (startup) to make sure its not pirated.Clone cd will copy these digital signatures and write them onto a cd useing different cd writers.
Make sure you use good quality media (different media for different games\protection)
um.........nuff said...... I may get in some sort of b.s discussing this on here at sg.

Note
Certain CD I find, using Clone CD (I use an older version to avoid another problem), works well with certain games and not others due to the fact that some Readers cannot read the sub-data and sub audio channels of the CD (This from what I know, affects the gaps and the bad sector stuff, which is usually checked for on a cd).
Some games have taken me little over 50 mins to read to an image file and then burn. However, somethings to note, with Clone CD for the best results, you need to get a burn that can do the RAW + 96byte read. Currently I find the newer the game, the harder it is to back up unless you have the RAW+96 capable reader.

What matters
for the media is they type, your either using gold or silver disks (Mitsui technology, one of the two best) or Kodak (Greenish, as good as Mitsui) or Cyanide (Purple Blue, cheapest and worst media)

What this means
is that like me, you won't be able to back up certain games using the CD-RW drive as your main reader. You might need to get another reader (I.E a Toshiba DVD-ROM) for you to copy certain games.

In light of recent developments and
from reading what the administration has to say about "illegal warez" other such illegal activities, I'd just like to point out that this is an educational thread for those users who's software agreements allows for them to actually create duplicates so that they don't damager their originals. Please keep that in mind when reading this thread and please do support the good gaming companies out there.

Very true, I have had no problems with the Plexter besides the firmware out the box had issues ,I use Imations silver, sometimes samsung and read and write at slowest speeds.Newest clone cd software has a feature you click on for to make copies of safedisc cds.Keep in mind sometimes when you burn copy protected software it will only be able to read in the same drive you made it from (like I said sometimes)
What cd are you trying to make a backup of (game)?I have done just about all of them.Look up updated firmwares for your cd drive it mmmm may help but i doubt it.

I'm trying Padus Disc Juggler to see if that's any good or if it'll work at all.

It should
Be sure to try the settings I have already posted earlier. A note on the reading of a CD: if the cd readers faster then 4 minutes (And it definately has protection on it) then the img your making doesn't contain the protection and will not work if you burn it. The average time for a safedisk 2 reading is anywhere from 35 minutes to a 1 and a 1/2 hours. It all depends on the reader.

D2 lod uses SecuROM - DADC like ver 7or8 some pretty hefty protection, never tried to copy D2, but I promise it can be done
just mess with different media and speeds settings , also click load then select ProtCD.ccp and give it a shot, later I may try doing that title on my plexy let ya know if I made a perfect 1:1 copy.

After a long bout with Diablo 2....
I think it's time I RMA the LG GCE-8160B for a Liteon 24X drive. Why? It's sooo fricken wierd, it does Safedisk/SafediskV2 disk but not SecuRom? And even wierder, it writes RAW+96byte, but it doesn't read it?...Ahh sigh, it has great over burn potential and seems to be one hell of a drive compared to the plexies, but I think the Liteon will be a better match up for my purposes.
