The Cuckoo's Egg, by Cliff Stoll. it's a book about a computer programmer guy, who catches a hacker hacking into his company.
Pretty interesting, and it's true, written 10 years ago or so.

non sci-fi, that kinda limits your options, lol, since Sci-FI and fantasy are the best!!

Mabye biographies? I find them to be usually pretty interesting.

Another good book, is Primo Levi's Survival at Auswitch. He's a concentration camp survivor, and it tells his tale. Takes about a day to read, it's only 150 pages or so.

yet another book lol, one of my favorites, is by Alan Dean Foster, the Spellsinger series.

It's a series of books about this college kid Jon-Tom, and he gets transported to another world where animals are smart, and talk and everything. It's cool cuz it blends fantasy, with reality. He plays rock songs on his guitar (called a duar in the books), and it conjures up magic.

Well, it's impossible to summarize the whole series. There are just so many aspects of it. But I'll try anyways.

It's basically about a Gunslinger, Roland. He does not live in our world, but a related one. There are links between his world and ours. Gunslinger are kind of like our police force, but with the difference that the Gunslingers are extremely well trained in using their weapons and mind. The whole series is basically about Roland's quest to find the Dark Tower. In there, he hopes to find a way to stop the corruption of all worlds, his, ours, and possibly others. In this quest he finds three allies from our world, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake. He trains them to be Gunslingers too, which of course turns them into more powerful allies.

The series is connected to other works of Stephen Kind, like "The Eye of the Dragon", "The Stand", and even "The Wizard of Oz" appears.

The connection was also made in "Hearts in Atlantis" and "Insomnia".

My whole life may go by without reading a better tale than the "western" portion of "Wizard and Glass".

Haven't read Japan Inc yet David, but I'll keep a lookout for it now that you mention it.

Speaking of Stephen King, I like the Regulators a lot, under his Richard Bachman pen-name. There's another part to the Regulators, which I haven't had a chance to read yet.
