Anyone use DBAN?

Post by Easto »

I've burned the ISO file to disk.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the web. I'd like to wipe my laptop's drive and then reinstall Win7. Anything I should be careful about when using this product?

Have used it....yes.
What the conflicting info that brings up questions for you?

If you're just wiping a drive to reinstall the OS, IMO no reason to waste time with DBAN, the native Windows tools within Windows setup are all you need...blow away partitions, create, format...and then install.

Other software tools to wipe drives....Eraser, and Active@KillDisk, and the one I use more often when I need a software tool to wipe them, RoadKils DiskWipe...found in Hirens CD. Although we usually use a piece of hardware I bought which securely wipes beyond gov't standards and prints out a certification for the drive documenting its make/model/serianl number/date wiped. It's wicked fast too!

To be honest that's the safest procedure regardless of what tools you use to wipe disks.

Actually, you can ask me how I know..............
