It's new cpu cooler time

Post by Easto »

I had never run Prime95 on my new rig so I thought I'd give it a try. With the stock Intel cooler my temps shot up aroun 75c and were still inching up. So I shut the puppy down. Needless to say I am in the market for a new CPU cooler. My BIGGEST priority after cooling capability is noise. In the past I was pretty happy with ThermalRight but I have not shopped for a cooler in some time.

Intel I5 2500 on an Asus board with no overclocking. I'd just like to bring all my temps down as much as possible. The case is well ventilated so that's not part of this solution (the fins on the cooler are clean too). My normal running temps during daily usage are in the low 30's. If I start to use my music software or photo editing they can bounce up into the low to mid 40's depending on the ambient temp of the room.

water cool ftw... my setup i just carry over from oen build to another... works great fanless, quiet cooling tower from zolman all I change is the cpu block but so far I've not had to even do that. Its a little expensive but as I said I can carry it over. I wouldn't fool with a CPU fan they will get noisy no matter which one you use and something for dust to settle on.

Sava,

Going to a water cooling system is tempting. More than anything I really want the solution to be as quiet as possible and from what I've seen of water cooling in the past... not too bulky.

I was just looking at those and I like the idea of being able to adjust the fan speed externally. I'm not really using my CPU hard core but it would be nice knowing that the cooling power is there when I need it.

I use this... not my picture but thats the tower.. works awesome and been running 24/7 for years. I'm not sure if they still make them but I'm thinking you can still find them out and about if you look online. little expensive but well worth it.

They have some nice models....some are gorgeous...if you have clear panel cases. They're huge..and very quiet. Because some models are super huge...think about the case you have and how much room you have.
