Video card drivers won't update
My mother in law's pc has a Sapphire Radeon Hd 4670 512 MB DDR3 PCIe with HDMI video card (sorry tried to narrow it down best I could) anyway the only drivers that work are from the disk and they are way outdated they are from 2008. I have tried official ATI drivers straight from the website and no go. I recently tried again with the drivers straight from Sapphire and no go. What it does each time is I install the driver update it all updates just fine the pc reboots and bam the screen looks crazy its like black and white and resolution is screwed up and i cant change it it shows the drivers are installed in device manager but i cant change anything what am I doing wrong?
You need to completely uninstall the old drivers using a cleaner like this:
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
Run that then reboot and try the driver upgrade....with ATI/AMD you will also need to make sure your dot.net is up to date ( I'm not sure how current this needs to be but I think you need at least 2.0)

forgot about that method. Im having a graphics dilemma of my own i have a core i3 550 processor and i was using the onboard graphics on a intel dh55pj motherboard the graphics are built into the cpu. Installed a ati 4650 pcie card and i switched it to the pcie graphics in the bios the only setting i could change is the memory size and it has 128 mb 256 mb and maximum vt whatever that is cant fully disable it. Im on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and i have 4 gigs of ddr3 pc1333 and its only showing 3.86 usable is this normal? is this the graphics doing it? if so how do i fix it? thanks.
im attempting this today. its an acer pc im doing it via teamviewer since shes about 20-30 mins away from me this way is easier for now. Acer has no record of her pc on their site so bios update dunno. but its a sapphire radeon 4670 512mb gddr3 card and i tried updating the drivers several times even grabbed the ones off sapphires website and still no go. I thought any ati card was compatible with the official ati drivers for the right series of card ya know? i will let ya know what happens.. thanks for all the support.
Well actually I did and it worked great. I followed the steps that u told me. I used driver sweeper but it didnt work very good. had to use unlocker to remove the ativ3xx file in safe mode and it didnt uninstall what was in control panel but no biggie ran reg defense on it and d/l the drivers from ati's site and bam works great. the drivers she had were from 2008. reason i did this was to fix an issue with the sims 3 not working right they were walking slow still didnt fix it but figured out what it was. it was the barnacle bay town on sims 3 it runs slow. so i maxed out her graphics and running smooth now with bridgeport town.. thanks for all ur help its appreciated. i just bought a powercolor radeon 4650 1gb ddr3 for my core i3 550 3.2ghz 4 gb corsair ddr3 1333 mhz and it works great for all games loving it. just cant get onboard graphics disabled fully with this intel dh55pj board i was using the core i3 350m graphics and cant get my memory back on windows 7 ult. 64 bit. it says 3.86 usable out of 4.0 gb any ideas on that my bios is the latest version by the way.. thanks.
Yeah true. all is well tho the acer is fixed turned out to be something simple but still drivers from 2008 needed to be updated. Ive got the latest drivers for my 4650 i can play gta 4 at max settings and high resolution and nfs hot pursuit so im happy. i will do a ram upgrade later on and grab a 4 gig stick of ddr3 and work my way to maxing it out which it maxes out at 8 Gig thats overkill almost.
