On my Asus laptop, it seems that the mic is on the OUTSIDE of the laptop - you know, if you were tto close it, it's on top, in the middle by the edge. The problem is, the external speakers I bought sit right behind my lapttop, and when I try to turn it up, I get feedback. I tried moving the speakers to the side, so they're not RIGHT behind it, and I can turn it up a bit louder before the feedback kicks in, but it still kicks in before it's reasonably loud (i like to turn my music up once in a while).
I googled and didnt find much, but one suggestion was to mute the mic. I went into control panel/sounds, found the mic and hit "disable" - but it still works! What's really odd is that the mic seems to be on all the time (unless it's not really the mic, but something else?). What I mean is, right now my speakers are plugged in, but I'm not actively recording anything, not using the webcam or anything that would turn the mic on. however, if I stand up and speak into the little hole on top of my laptop, my voice comes out of my laptop speakers. it does this even when i go into the cp and disable the 'mic'.
Is that not the mic, then? If not, what the hell is that little hole for? Has Asus been listening to my life through it for the last two years?
